Parents Demand Safe, Fun, and Educational Screentime
In a recent survey conducted by Lingokids, the leading online entertainment platform designed for young children, a comprehensive look into the attitudes of American parents towards children's screentime was unveiled. The study included responses from
2,000 parents with children aged between
2 and 8 years, showcasing their preferences and priorities concerning kids' media consumption.
The findings highlighted a significant desire among parents for content that not only entertains but also supports safety and education. According to the report,
87.7% of parents placed safety as their top priority, followed closely by
67.3% who emphasized the importance of fun. Furthermore,
64.8% indicated that they prefer educational content that builds skills and contributes to their children's development. This indicates a notable commitment from parents to curating a safe and enriching digital environment for their children.
Lingokids came out on top in each assessment category. Parents gave the platform an impressive
4.8 out of 5 when it came to safety, significantly outperforming the next highest ranked platform,
ABCMouse, which received a score of
4.5. In terms of fun and educational value, Lingokids scored
4.7, closely followed by
PBS Kids. In stark contrast, platforms like
YouTube and
Roblox received lower ratings, failing to exceed
3 out of 5 across the board. Such results illustrate a growing concern among parents about the quality and trustworthiness of children's content available online.
One parent commented on the survey, remarking, "We strive to limit screentime and often use it as a reward for good behavior. I have considerable reservations about YouTube, as even the safer channels can lead to unwanted content. When I allow my child some screen time, I prefer Lingokids or a select few other trusted platforms. Currently, it's a motivator during potty training, making screen time a useful reward."
Moreover, the survey indicated that inappropriate content is a predominant cause of guilt among parents regarding screentime. Nonetheless, parents also recognize that, if managed carefully, screentime can yield positive outcomes for their children's emotional and intellectual growth.
Cristóbal Viedma, the founder and CEO of Lingokids, articulated this sentiment: "With over
98% of families utilizing screentime for their young kids today, the focus has inevitably shifted to the quality of content. Engaging material allows for fun to occur while subtly implementing learning, fostering confidence in children and nurturing positive traits."
Lingokids caters to this need by transforming screen time into both safe and enjoyable opportunities for children to learn. Supported by a variety of activities, shows, and songs, the platform has found favor among millions of families, amassing over
20 million users each month globally. With a collection exceeding
4,000 offerings, along with accolades from prominent sources like Disney and NASA, Lingokids is at the forefront of fostering curiosity and creativity in young minds.
