Codasip RISC-V Processors Achieve ASIL-D Certification
On October 1, 2025, in Munich, Germany, Codasip, the European RISC-V leader, announced that its high-performance embedded processor cores, L735 and L739, have successfully received TÜV SÜD certification related to functional safety. The L735 is certified up to ASIL-B, while the L739 has achieved compliance with the ASIL-D automotive safety requirements as defined by the ISO 26262 standard.
This certification demonstrates that both processor IPs meet the rigorous demands of functional safety in automotive applications. The L735 and L739 can be integrated into systems where the highest levels of reliability and regulatory compliance are essential. Alongside functional safety certification, both products also comply with the international cybersecurity standard for automotive development, ISO/SAE 21434, ensuring that Codasip's processor IP provides reliable protection against security risks in today's connected vehicles.
Certified Development Process
The L735 and L739 were developed using Codasip's IP development process, which has been certified by TÜV SÜD for compliance with both ISO 26262 and ISO/SAE 21434. This foundational development framework guarantees that Codasip’s methodologies are capable of meeting stringent requirements for both safety and cybersecurity.
Safety-First Design for High-End Embedded Systems
Both cores are part of the Codasip 700 family, optimized for high-end embedded microcontrollers featuring a multi-issue, in-order microarchitecture. The L735 includes safety mechanisms such as Error Correction Codes (ECC) for caches and tightly-coupled memory, as well as a Memory Protection Unit (MPU) that provides error reports standardized by the RISC-V RERI. The L739 is a dual-core lock-step version based on the L735, enabling the fulfillment of ASIL-D hardware metrics.
Jamie Broome, Codasip's Chief Product Officer, remarked, "The addition of TÜV SÜD's ASIL-B and ASIL-D certifications to our expanding Codasip automotive CPU portfolio marks a significant milestone for both Codasip and our customers. This embodies our commitment to delivering a wide range of standard RISC-V processor IP that satisfies the safety and security requirements outlined in ISO 26262 and ISO/SAE 21434, driving innovation in the safety-critical and security markets, particularly in the automotive sector."
Evolving Design Capabilities with Codasip Studio
The L735 and L739 cores were developed leveraging Codasip Studio, the company’s processor design automation tool. Codasip Studio facilitates the development of certifiable processor derivatives by generating both hardware and software development kits from a single architecture description. This approach ensures consistency and traceability, which are vital requirements in safety-related designs. The 700 family also supports Bounded Custom, allowing customers to implement custom instructions and accelerators. This capability provides powerful means for performance differentiation and adaptation tailored to specific workloads. Furthermore, both cores can be enhanced through CHERI (Capability Hardware Enhanced RISC Instructions) technology.
