Tencent Esports Competition Solution to Enhance the 20th Asian Games' eSports Events

The 20th Asian Games will witness the return of eSports as an official event for the second time, shaping a significant moment in the evolving landscape of competitive gaming. Under the technological guidance of the Tencent Esports Competition Solution (ECS), this edition aims to provide comprehensive support for 11 eSports competitions, marking its largest program in history. Scheduled from September 22 to October 2, 2026, at the Aichi Sky Expo in Japan, the event showcases a diverse range of games across six categories.

ECS is tailored for large-scale, intercontinental eSports competitions, ensuring fair play and equitable conditions through rigorous technical support. It simplifies the complex nature of multi-game tournaments by establishing a cohesive framework that guarantees consistency amid various gaming titles, teams, and tournament officials. It covers all aspects, from pre-match equipment checks and real-time monitoring during matches to post-match analysis and archival management.

Technical Support Across All Stages

ECS plays a pivotal role at three critical phases:
1. Pre-Match Preparations: Before each match, the control center undertakes device checks alongside the players’ setups and gaming environment, maintaining meticulous records.
2. Real-Time Monitoring: During competitions, it allows officials to track over 30 key indicators, including equipment and network statuses. Various video feeds—Player's POV, Observer POV, and portable camera views—will be consolidated for seamless oversight.
3. Post-Match Analysis: After matches, officials can access match data and video recordings through an analysis room for comprehensive review, data synthesis, and archiving.

Building on Previous Experiences

Tencent's experience from the 19th Asian Games plays a crucial role in shaping ECS. The technical team effectively managed 217 matches without technical incidents, fostering confidence in the system’s reliability. To prepare for the 20th Games, ECS conducted three testing events in Japan, Singapore, and Vietnam, ensuring robust testing under diverse conditions before the official competition.

"Integrating eSports into multi-sport events necessitates aligning competition processes with fairness standards established in traditional sports," stated Yati Zhang, Director of Tencent Esports. She emphasized that ECS transforms traditionally manual processes—like equipment checks and real-time monitoring—into recordable and analyzable technical procedures. The aim is to position ECS as a reusable technical framework for future eSports competitions across Asia.

Towards a Standardized eSports Infrastructure

The implementation of ECS reflects the increasing importance of developing standardized competition infrastructure as eSports integrates into the broader Asian sports ecosystem. The strategic ten-year partnership between the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and Tencent Esports, spanning from 2025 to 2035, underscores a significant shift in Asian eSports towards collaborative technology and system development.

Husain Al-Musallam, General Director of OCA, highlighted that eSports has evolved beyond mere participation in events to a phase focused on building joint technologies and systems. "As eSports continues to grow across Asia, establishing more standardized and institutionalized competition systems is a long-term goal," he added.

With ECS's deployment for the 11 eSports events at the 20th Asian Games, Tencent Esports aims to expand its role beyond just supporting individual competitions, instead fostering a robust technical infrastructure suited for the complexities of eSports environments. This large-scale test of standardized technical solutions during a multi-sport context is anticipated to set a benchmark for eSports globally.
