As summer approaches, 7-Eleven, Inc. is thrilled to announce the return of its hallmark initiative, Operation Chill®, for the 31st consecutive year. This community outreach program aims to foster positive interactions between law enforcement and youth, encouraging good behavior in young people. Through Operation Chill, law enforcement agencies across the country distribute coupons that can be redeemed for free Slurpee® drinks at participating 7-Eleven®, Speedway®, and Stripes® locations. Each coupon serves as a reward for children who perform acts of kindness, promote safety, or display positive behavior.
Operation Chill has been a cornerstone of 7-Eleven's commitment to enhancing community relationships since its inception in 1995. More than 1,300 law enforcement agencies have participated, resulting in over 24 million distributed coupons over the years. For the 2026 season, 7-Eleven plans to issue nearly 740,000 coupons to participating agencies, further promoting a culture of positivity among youth.
The program acknowledges activities that inspire goodwill—like a child wearing a helmet while biking, helping a neighbor, or picking up litter. Officers now have a fun incentive to reward such positive behaviors, thus fostering a spirit of community and engagement.
"Operation Chill is more than just handing out coupons; it represents our commitment to building trusts and fostering lasting connections within our communities," said Treasa Bowers, the Executive Vice President and Chief People and Sustainability Officer at 7-Eleven, Inc. "For three decades, this program has shown how positive interactions can bridge gaps and encourage meaningful actions among young people."
In addition to its social implications, Operation Chill is crucial in promoting safety and trust between law enforcement and kids. Dallas Police Assistant Chief Teena Schultz emphasized that fostering positive engagement with youth is essential. "The initiative not only recognizes good behavior but also creates constructive interactions between officers and the young local residents they serve. It’s an opportunity for community building that we cannot overlook," she noted.
Participating law enforcement agencies are invited to register online, where they can request coupons and access resources to enhance the program's effectiveness. The platform also provides best practices aimed at maximizing the benefits of Operation Chill within local communities.
