The AXA Art Prize U.S. is gearing up for an exciting showcase of emerging artistic talent this November at the New York Academy of Art. Out of nearly 600 submissions from 132 educational institutions nationwide, a curated shortlist of 40 exceptional works has been selected, representing a diverse and vibrant landscape of creativity among today’s student artists.

Selection Process

The selection process for the finalists involved an extensive review by regional jurors hailing from the Prize's esteemed Strategic Advisory Board, which includes representatives from 30 leading art schools and programs such as the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Savannah College of Art and Design, Pratt Institute, and California College of the Arts. This rigorous process ensures that only the most innovative and technically skilled works are highlighted in the exhibition.

The final selection of the 40 pieces was conducted by a distinguished panel of curators that includes Laura Hoptman from the Drawing Center, Christopher Lew from C/O Curatorial Office, independent curator Monique Long, and Jasmine Wahi from Project for Empty Space.

Representation

The shortlisted artists come from 23 different schools across 17 states, showcasing a wide geographical representation of talent. Notably, six schools excelled in producing multiple finalists: California College of the Arts with two finalists, the New York Academy of Art with three, and several institutions each contributing four finalists including Maryland Institute College of Art, Rhode Island School of Design, and Savannah College of Art and Design. The Prize Structure

Since its inception in 2018, the AXA Art Prize U.S. has become a flagship platform celebrating emerging artists and their innovative figurative works. During the upcoming exhibition week, attendees can look forward to the announcement of a first-place winner who will receive a prize of $10,000, alongside a runner-up who will be awarded $5,000.
