BAIC FOTON Africa Partners Conference Marks New Era for Localization Efforts

BAIC FOTON Africa Partners Conference: A Step Towards Localization

On October 29, 2026, the BAIC FOTON Africa Partners Conference, themed "Drive to Great," took place at the iconic Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. This pivotal event brought together nearly 700 attendees, including key stakeholders from the Chinese and African political and business realms, top executives from both BAIC Group and BAIC FOTON, along with distributors, industrial partners, and media representatives from 42 African countries.

Strategic Collaborations to Enhance Cooperation

The conference served as a platform for strategic discussions focused on fostering deeper cooperation across the entire value chain. Chang Rui, CEO of BAIC Group, and Chairman of the Board of BAIC FOTON, alongside customers, celebrated the delivery of a significant order of 1,000 heavy trucks in Ghana and another 800 in Zambia. In addition, Wu Zongtian, President of BAIC FOTON International, kicked off several new energy product projects, marking a strong commitment to sustainable development in several African markets. These projects will see 200 units in Mozambique, 100 in Ethiopia, and 100 in Kenya, reflecting BAIC FOTON's focus on supporting green transition initiatives across various sectors, including mining and agriculture.

Localized Products and Ecosystem Development

During the conference, Wu Zongtian presented a comprehensive report detailing BAIC FOTON's internationalization strategy and its roadmap for the African region. The strategy is built upon three core pillars: a localized product portfolio, establishment of a localized business ecosystem, and localized manufacturing and operations. This approach aims to activate Southern Africa, while also facilitating coordinated breakthroughs in East, North, and West Africa, leveraging a diverse range of technologies, including fuel, natural gas, battery electric, and plug-in hybrid systems.

The launch of two heavy trucks—the GALAXUS R5 and GALAXUS C5—alongside the TUNLAND V PHEV pickup truck represents a significant expansion of BAIC FOTON's offerings in Africa. This product diversification is aimed at fulfilling the soaring demand for heavy-duty logistics and multifunctional mobility solutions across the continent.

Enhancing Regional Manufacturing Capabilities

BAIC FOTON continues to solidify its manufacturing capabilities in Africa, relying on a network of 16 localized factories. At a strategic signing session during the conference, Dai Hongkai, the Party Secretary of BAIC FOTON International, finalized six localized manufacturing agreements with partners in Tanzania, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. Additionally, BAIC FOTON entered into a partnership with WesBank to enhance vehicle purchase support and collaborated with DP World to create an African parts center warehouse. Such initiatives are set to provide comprehensive support to users across the continent, strengthening the operational fabric of the automotive industry in Africa.

Promoting Market Engagement

The conference also included an awards ceremony recognizing partners who have excelled in account development, new energy initiatives, after-sales services, and distributor collaborations. Luo Yunjie, VP of BAIC FOTON International, announced the launch of the Africa leg of the FOTON GALAXUS Global Experience, presenting flags to distributor representatives from Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. This significant move confirms BAIC FOTON's ongoing commitment to nurturing local partnerships and promoting a collaborative approach to industry growth.

As BAIC FOTON embarks on this new journey labeled "Drive to Great," the conference has set a strong foundation for expanding its regional presence and reinforcing localized manufacturing, marking a notable chapter in the company's ongoing African expansion efforts.

Through strategic cooperation and localized initiatives, BAIC FOTON is not just driving sales but is committed to delivering value and innovation across the African automotive landscape, signifying a robust step towards sustainable growth and partnership.
