This innovative approach aims to significantly enhance network capabilities in four key areas: bandwidth, reliability, coverage, and latency. With the pressing need for improved service experiences, this initiative could transform the telecommunications landscape, empowering operators to extract maximum value from their networks while delivering top-notch AI services.
During the Green All-Optical Network Forum, the discussion encompassed the current state and future potential of all-optical networks amid the rise of artificial intelligence. The event gathered over 200 industry leaders, including representatives from European telecom regulators, the FTTH Council, various operators, and equipment vendors. Notable global operators like Bouygues Telecom and China Unicom shared valuable insights into their successful implementations, shedding light on essential network requirements necessary for cultivating smart home services and fostering AI innovations through enhanced computing capabilities.
Key Initiatives Proposed by Huawei
Huawei put forth four primary initiatives designed to uplift network standards:
1. Enhancing Home Networking with Wi-Fi 7: Huawei's tri-band FTTR (Fiber to the Room) solution promises a consistent rate of 4 Gbps in every room, featuring seamless roaming throughout the home with a minimal delay of 10 milliseconds. This Wi-Fi mesh solution leverages AI-driven anti-interference technology, which improves signal penetration and boosts transmission rates by 20% in environments with interference, creating a better user experience.
2. Next-Generation Passive Optical Networks (PON): The use of innovative technologies, including OLT app-level PON slicing and Wi-Fi air interface scheduling, establishes dedicated assurance channels for privileged applications. This strategy offers users tiered and deterministic network experiences with significantly reduced latency and enhanced bandwidth.
3. End-to-End Optical Cross-Connect (OXC) Metro Networks: Huawei's latest OXC solution extends all-optical switching capabilities to metropolitan networks, aiming to reduce latency while enhancing AI service performance through a mesh network architecture that supports millisecond-level computations.
4. 400G/800G Bandwidth Evolution: The adoption of a 3D-mesh backbone architecture, combined with new technologies such as 400G/800G bandwidth and full-format submarine cable transmission, addresses the frequent bandwidth bottlenecks observed in traffic-heavy areas, effectively managing data center interconnectivity (DCI) and cross-border traffic challenges.
Commitment to Zero-Outage Networks
Huawei also emphasizes the critical importance of a zero-outage optical network to ensure uninterrupted AI service delivery. This involves coordinated upgrades of both hardware and software, leveraging advanced algorithms and eOTDR technology to swiftly identify and address potential network risks. Notably, the employment of innovative liquid crystal materials facilitates wavelength-switched optical network (WSON) switching within a rapid 50 milliseconds, resulting in ultra-high reliability.
In the optical access domain, Huawei introduces the FANSpirit agent, designed to reduce complaints from home broadband users, while the OTNSpirit agent in the optical transmission domain recommends optimal pathways based on critical factors like bandwidth, latency, and reliability. This intelligent management fosters operational upgrades for telecom providers.
