Lotte Joins CCNC to Launch Project for Reducing CO2 Emissions by Promoting Eco-Friendly Purchasing Behavior

Lotte's Commitment to Carbon Neutrality



In a significant move towards fostering environmental consciousness, Lotte, headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has officially joined the Challenge Carbon Neutral Consortium (CCNC) from 2024. This consortium consists of 15 companies dedicated to promoting carbon neutrality and encouraging consumers to adopt eco-friendly behaviors. The initiative, named the "Everyone Reduces CO2 (Genkotsu) Project 2025," aims to educate and engage consumers in reducing their carbon footprints through informed purchasing decisions.

Overview of the Project



The project is spearheaded by the Japan Research Institute, located in Shinagawa, Tokyo, in collaboration with two prefectures and one city: Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, Kyoto, and Yokohama. The primary focus is to reach approximately 530,000 elementary school students in grades 4 to 6, along with their parents. By emphasizing both education and promotional efforts, the project seeks to significantly alter consumers’ behaviors towards carbon neutrality.

One of the highlighted initiatives is the introduction of a learning kit and a free research contest called "Eco Label Hunter 2025." This contest provides an engaging platform for children to explore eco-labels and carbon footprints (CFP) at home and in stores, learning about environmentally friendly products in a fun and interactive manner. On July 2, a special website for "Eco Label Hunter 2025" was launched to facilitate this initiative.

The dedicated website allows students to document their findings of eco-labels and CFPs, visually presenting their discovery achievements. During the summer break, students will have the opportunity to participate in a contest aimed at recognizing those who locate the most eco-labels and CFPs in their localities, effectively promoting learning about carbon neutrality.

In conjunction with the "Eco Label Hunter 2025" activities, CCNC member companies are also planning promotional campaigns centered around products with CFP calculations and eco-labeling. Notably, there will be a "Must-Buy" campaign across all 169 stores of Bandai, as well as a quiz campaign utilizing the Sugi Pharmacy app, fostering consistent consumer engagement in eco-friendly practices.

Lotte's Role in the Initiative



Lotte has been actively expanding its environmental initiatives under the brand name "Smile Eco Label," which symbolizes its commitment to creating a positive impact on the environment. The company plans to feature products like "Koala's March" with the Smile Eco Label, driving awareness and education about eco-labels among consumers.

Together with other CCNC member companies, Lotte aspires to cultivate consumers who can discern eco-friendly products, ultimately bolstering the market for self-sustaining carbon-neutral products through their purchasing behavior.

To convey its environmental commitments clearly to consumers, Lotte has introduced the Smile Eco Label on the packaging of environmentally friendly products.
