VIVOTEK Implements Smart Security Solutions at Japanese UNESCO Resort

VIVOTEK Enhances Security at Kitakobushi Resort

In a significant move to boost safety and operational efficiency, VIVOTEK has deployed a state-of-the-art smart security solution at Kitakobushi Resort located in Shiretoko, Japan, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. This deployment not only enhances the safety measures but also streamlines monitoring operations across the resort’s numerous properties, ultimately improving the guest experience while preserving the area's stunning natural environment.

Background: The Need for Updated Security

Kitakobushi Resort operates multiple distinct properties in the Shiretoko area, including a large hotel with views of the Sea of Okhotsk, a forest retreat, and historic accommodations that collectively showcase the picturesque landscapes and cultural heritage of Hokkaido. With the rise in visitor numbers and consequently heightened expectations for safety, it became increasingly important for the resort to adopt modern security measures. The existing aging surveillance infrastructure prompted a comprehensive review, leading to the decision to upgrade and unify their security systems.

Challenges: Overcoming Old Infrastructure

As demand for safety and efficiency grew among visitors, several challenges became apparent. The outdated, fragmented surveillance system was particularly ineffective at the resort's two flagship properties. The three main challenges identified were:

1. Aging Infrastructure: The existing cameras and network video recorders (NVR) needed replacements to maintain high functional standards.
2. Scattered Monitoring Operations: Each property had been individually monitored, complicating management and efficiency. The resort required a solution that allowed for centralized remote monitoring.
3. Cost-Effective Coverage: The need for extensive coverage across various areas, including public spaces and back-of-house operations, required a system that could deliver effectiveness without incurring excessive costs.

Solutions: A Unified Smart Security System

VIVOTEK, renowned for its reliability and innovative solutions, was chosen to implement the necessary upgrades. A total of 58 network cameras were strategically deployed across Kitakobushi Shiretoko Hotel Resort and KIKI Shiretoko Natural Resort. The centralized management was established using two NVR-Pro units powered by System K's SK VMS.

Camera Deployment

1. PTZ Cameras (SD9161-H): Seventeen units of these pan-tilt-zoom cameras were installed throughout the hotels and their parking areas. With a 10x optical zoom, they allow staff to monitor expansive areas and zoom in on important details without needing to be on-site.
2. Dome Cameras (FD9369): Forty-one compact dome cameras were placed mainly indoors to maintain the resort's natural ambiance while providing reliable surveillance performance.

By integrating all 58 cameras into a single management platform, Kitakobushi Resort achieved comprehensive visibility across both properties, simplifying daily monitoring tasks and enabling quicker response times to on-site incidents.

Results: Improved Operations and Guest Safety

The implementation of VIVOTEK's smart security solution has significantly improved the resort's operational efficiency and enhanced guest safety. Some key improvements include:
  • - Streamlined Multi-Facility Management: Staff can now oversee multiple properties from a single interface, eliminating redundant checks and enhancing operational efficiency.
  • - Flexible Monitoring: The PTZ cameras provide real-time flexibility in surveillance, allowing staff to manage routine monitoring tasks with ease.
  • - Aesthetic Integration: The discreet design of the dome cameras ensures that the resort’s overall ambiance remains unaffected while still providing essential security coverage.
  • - Enhanced Safety: The combination of advanced video technology and centralized management ensures a safe and welcoming experience for both staff and guests.
