Julien's Auctions Announces Exclusive Bob Dylan Auction Featuring Al Aronowitz Archive and T Bone Burnett's Ionic Original Recording

Julien's Auctions: Celebrating Bob Dylan's Legacy

Julien's Auctions is set to hold a remarkable auction entitled "Celebrating Bob Dylan: The Al Aronowitz Archive, T Bone Burnett, and more" on January 18, 2025, at the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. This auction will showcase over 60 items, with 50 significant pieces sourced from journalist Al Aronowitz's personal collection.

Auction Highlights

One of the most exciting items to be auctioned is a pair of typewritten drafts for the legendary song "Mr. Tambourine Man," expected to fetch between $400,000 and $600,000. In addition, an early oil painting by Bob Dylan from 1968 is anticipated to sell for between $200,000 and $300,000. Other notable items include promotional materials from Dylan’s first major performance at New York's Town Hall in 1963, vintage photographs, original sketches, and more.

The centerpiece of this auction will be an Ionic Original disc featuring a new studio recording of "The Times They Are A-Changin'" by Bob Dylan, produced by Grammy-winning producer T Bone Burnett. This exclusive item is estimated to be valued between $400,000 and $600,000 and marks the second public sale of a recording made with Ionic Original technology, following the successful auction of "Blowin' In The Wind" in 2022.

Reflections on Legacy

Myles Aronowitz, son of Al Aronowitz, shared reflections on his father's influential role in the music world, stating, "My father was this incredible connective tissue… He introduced Allen Ginsberg to Bob Dylan and Bob Dylan to The Beatles. The collection represents my father's instinctive ability to recognize and connect the extraordinary."

T Bone Burnett expressed his thoughts on the new recording, noting, "Hearing Bob Dylan sing 'The Times They Are A-Changin'' sixty years after it was written is an emotional experience… this Ionic Original disc is the definitive version of this timeless song."

Special Exhibition

In conjunction with the auction, a special exhibition featuring key items from Al Aronowitz's collection will take place from December 18, 2024, to January 17, 2025, at the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum. Auction participants can look forward to a unique array of memorabilia, including a harmonica signed by Dylan, the original typewritten lyrics for "Mr. Tambourine Man," an oil painting from 1968, a Fender Telecaster, a Levi's jacket worn in the 1987 film "Hearts on Fire," and much more.

This auction presents a rare opportunity to acquire valuable artifacts related to Bob Dylan's illustrious career, all originating from the Al Aronowitz archive. For further information and a complete list of items available for auction, please visit the official Julien's Auctions website.
