OneOncology Receives CMS Approval as Qualified Clinical Data Registry

Date: January 7, 2025

OneOncology, a physician-focused platform aimed at supporting independent oncology practices, has proudly announced that its Oncology Quality Hub has been approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as both a Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) and a Qualified Registry (QR). This noteworthy designation signifies that OneOncology is now equipped to meet the demanding federal standards necessary for collecting and submitting clinical data under CMS's Quality Payment Program (QPP).

The newfound status of OneOncology as a CMS-approved QCDR allows the organization to collate clinical data from various sources, thereby facilitating the reporting of Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) measures for clinicians and practices, irrespective of the electronic medical record (EMR) system they employ. This advancement optimizes quality reporting while simultaneously empowering practices to enhance their performance metrics.

Furthermore, OneOncology is now empowered to create and propose new quality measures to CMS for its consideration, thereby playing a pioneering role in defining clinical quality metrics within the oncology realm. Davey Daniel, MD, Chief Medical Officer of OneOncology, expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating, "We are excited to provide in-house MIPS support as a CMS-approved registry. Our teams are well-versed in the intricacies of the MIPS program and are dedicated to assisting our partner practices in navigating MIPS performance and compliance requirements. With this QCDR addition, our partner practices can feel assured in their MIPS journey."

For the 2023 reporting year, practices collaborating with OneOncology achieved an impressive average MIPS score of 96, reflecting an 11-point year-over-year improvement. As CMS set a 75-point threshold to avoid penalties within the MIPS program for 2023, these substantial scores have significant implications for payment adjustments in 2025. Moreover, this reporting year held historical significance for oncology practices, marking the first instance in seven years that numerous practices engaged fully in MIPS following the conclusion of the Oncology Care Model (OCM) in 2022 and the end of the Public Health Emergency.

MIPS operates on four key objectives:
1. Linking Medicare payments to the quality of care and cost efficiency.
2. Driving enhancements in care processes and patient health outcomes.
3. Increasing the utilization of healthcare information.
4. Reducing overall care costs.
