KUKUKU Tea Lounge to Exhibit at Hanshin Mont Blanc Event After Michelin Selection

KUKUKU, a newly opened tea lounge located in Roppongi, Tokyo, is making headlines as it earns a selection in the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2026 within just 10 months of its opening. Operated by Harapeko Co., Ltd., led by CEO Emoto Mitomi, the establishment specializes in traditional Japanese sweets (wagashi) and freshly brewed tea, providing a unique and authentic culinary experience.

Starting October 8, 2025, KUKUKU will participate for the very first time in the 'Hanshin Mont Blanc Event vol. 2', which runs until October 13, 2025. This event not only marks KUKUKU’s debut at a major exhibition but also celebrates its rapid ascent within the culinary scene of Tokyo.

About KUKUKU

Founded in November 2024, KUKUKU is dedicated to celebrating Japan's cherished traditions of wagashi and tea. Under the skilled craftsmanship of wagashi artist Kaito Fujita, guests are treated to confections that emphasize temperature and texture, paired with premium tea leaves sourced from across Japan. The menu features seasonal pairings of wagashi and tea, including set courses called 'Kaseki' and 'Kogaseki', as well as a la carte options for a more tailored experience. This unique approach offers a memorable visit, leaving patrons with flavors and textures they cannot find elsewhere.

Profile of Wagashi Artist Kaito Fujita

Kaito Fujita, the wagashi artist behind KUKUKU, hails from Mie Prefecture’s Okka High School, known for its culinary performing arts program which was adapted into the drama 'High School Restaurant'. Initially aspiring to become a French pastry chef, Fujita’s career took a turn after a conversation with a French pastry instructor who enlightened him about the essence of true French pastry. As a result, he shifted his focus to mastering wagashi at the renowned local confectionery, Yume Kashi Kobo Kotoyo. Fujita’s journey reflects a blend of traditional Japanese culture and innovative culinary practices.

Owner's Vision

Mitomi Emoto, the owner and producer of KUKUKU, shared his thoughts on the name 'KUKUKU', which signifies 999, just one shy of 1,000, showing respect for the tea master Sen no Rikyū. His vision is to cultivate a new culture of enjoying wagashi through a course dining experience. The acknowledgment from the Michelin Guide fills him with joy, as it reflects their efforts to innovate within the realm of wagashi, similarly to how Rikyū contributed to Japan’s unique aesthetic through tea ceremonies.
