Okayama University Students Shine at Innovation Challenge Award Ceremony

Celebrating Innovation at Okayama University

On March 11, 2026, the award ceremony for the 2026 Student Innovation Challenge Promotion Project took place at the Okayama City Hall. Among the honored were two groups from Okayama University: the SCOG Leaders from the Faculty of Agriculture and the Sakou Laboratory from the Faculty of Education.

This project supports young people as they tackle local issues with innovative ideas and venture into small business opportunities. After thorough evaluations in a report meeting held in February, five groups were honored out of twenty-six contenders, including Okayama University's representatives.

Award-Winning Projects

The SCOG Leaders, whose project is titled "Small City in Our Garden (SCOG): A Student-Led House Design Project," expressed heartfelt gratitude upon receiving the award. Nagi Takada, a 4th-year student from the Faculty of Agriculture, reflected on the inclusive nature of their project. "It has been immensely rewarding to have elementary, junior high, high school, and university students involved in our initiative, which launched in April 2025. For 2026, we aim to model this venture into a sustainable activity that represents Okayama University’s Faculty of Agriculture," Takada said.

Similarly, Aito Oda from the Faculty of Education, representing the Sakou Laboratory with their project called "Inclusive 'Uraja Dance Project,'" shared his joy and appreciation. "Through the 'Rinbu Onra' activities, I hope we can further enhance the vibrancy of 'Uraja' and Okayama, and I will strive to contribute to this goal," Oda remarked.

Future Commitments

Okayama University remains committed to fostering students' proactive initiatives that address local challenges. We look forward to the university's future endeavors as a core regional and distinctive research institution.

The awards ceremony was not just an end but a celebration of ongoing efforts. A group photo captured the moment, showcasing the team's pride and excitement, particularly noting Aito Oda standing third from the left in the educational faculty group photo.

Following the ceremony, there was a courtesy visit to Okayama City’s Mayor, Masao Omori, signaling the community's support and connection.

The efforts put forth by the students have not gone unnoticed. Their innovative approaches not only contribute to academic growth but also serve the greater community, reflecting the core values of Okayama University.
