SKF Launches Innovative Football Kits Designed by Players: A Tribute to Youth Football
SKF’s Innovative Football Kits: Designed by Players, for Players
As the excitement builds for the upcoming year's most pivotal football tournament, SKF has unveiled a remarkable collection of match kits. Uniquely crafted by Monica Jusu Bah and Felicia Schröder, players from Sweden's national football team, these kits not only represent innovative design but also celebrate the spirit of youth football. Every year, SKF sponsors over 300 young athletes from around the world to participate in the prestigious Gothia Cup, the largest youth football tournament globally.
The initiative stems from the ethos of connecting young talents with professional players who have walked a similar path. Both Bah and Schröder have experienced the Gothia Cup firsthand, competing just a few years ago. Now, as national players preparing for crucial World Cup qualifiers and as UEFA Women’s Europa Cup champions, they are ready to give back through their design work.
A Meaningful Design Inspiration
According to Bah, the inspiration for the football kit came from a significant moment in their friendship—it symbolizes their bond, represented through matching tattoos they received together. "The tattoos symbolize our journey and friendship, and we wanted to pass on that feeling to the young players representing SKF at Gothia Cup," emphasized Bah.
While the sun and the moon depicted on the kits symbolize the duo's diverse backgrounds, they also stand for unity—an important message as they embrace their roles as mentors to the younger footballers. Schröder added, “Our differences are acknowledged, but they also bring us together, enriching both our friendship and our teams.”
Team Spirit with a Global Touch
Last year, SKF collaborated with renowned goalkeeper Zećira Mušović, who has made headlines for her impressive return to Malmö FF from Chelsea FC. Mušović inspired over 400 children who participated in the Gothia Cup, fostering an environment where young dreams are nurtured and friendships are formed.
Rickard Gustafson, SKF’s President and CEO, stated, “We aim not only to allow these young athletes to join the world-renowned Gothia Cup but also to create memorable experiences and foster lifelong friendships.”
About This Year's Kit
The current match kit features a striking sun/moon pattern, identical to the tattoos that Bah and Schröder got three years ago when they began their football journey together. The shirt's ombre design, complemented with golden numbers and logos, serves as a tribute to both their friendship and the essence of teamwork, which is at the heart of football.
Meet the World Initiative
SKF's “Meet the World” initiative works towards a frictionless world—not just in machinery but also in building connections among aspiring athletes. Taking place in 15 to 25 countries where SKF has a presence, this pre-tournament is designed to give both beginners and seasoned players essential support. This year, teams comprising participants from various countries including Thailand, India, Germany, and Nigeria will be represented at the Gothia Cup.
Teams from 15 participating countries will send groups to Gothenburg, showcasing six girls' teams, twelve boys' teams, and three Special Olympics teams from France, India, and Italy. It’s a platform where sportsmanship transcends borders and age.
The Gothia Cup, where nearly 2,000 teams come together, celebrates youth football from July 13-19, 2026, with matches hosted across the Gothenburg region. Participants across age groups from 11 to 18 years are set to experience a unique and vibrant tournament atmosphere.
For SKF, this initiative signifies more than just a sponsorship; it’s a heartfelt commitment to inspiring the next generation through football. The company believes in the power of dreams and the importance of fostering friendships on and off the pitch, and it’s this vision that makes their football kits deeply meaningful.
