Exploring Future Ways of Living: Age-Well Design at the Osaka Expo
From April 29 to May 5, 2025, AgeWellJapan showcased innovative ideas about aging positively and living well at the Osaka Kansai Expo. This event is part of the 2025 World Expo, aimed at featuring concepts that resonate with the theme of “designing a future where lives shine brightly.” With initiatives such as their grandchild support service, "Motto Mate," and multi-generational community spaces known as "Mottba!", AgeWellJapan is paving the way for a more inclusive and positive society for all ages.
Engaging Visitors in Self-Discovery
During the expo, AgeWellJapan set up an interactive booth within the Future Life Experience (FLE) area, inviting visitors to explore their new perspectives on age. They implemented a range of engaging activities, such as the "Age-Well Type Diagnosis," where attendees could learn about their aging styles. Additionally, guests were encouraged to declare their intentions towards Age-Well living and participate in a photo session to reflect their newfound insights.
The booth received an impressive footfall of approximately 3,500 attendees, who also answered a thought-provoking survey focused on aging in the 100-year life era, with 857 responses collected—801 from Japan and 56 from overseas participants.
Results of the Survey: Insights into Future Living
The survey indicated a strong interest in quality living, with around 57% of participants expressing a desire to live up to 100 years. More than 90% acknowledged understanding the Age-Well philosophy and expressed a wish to apply its principles in their lives. Through the Age-Well Type Diagnosis, a notable 42% identified as "learning and challenge-oriented" while 34% termed themselves "socially contributive," highlighting a general inclination towards personal growth and helping others. Moreover, when asked about what time they value most, many pointed to "hobby time" (34%) and "family connections" (25%), underscoring a shared focus on authenticity and relationships.
These findings reveal a growing awareness not solely on longevity but significantly on how one wants to live and whom they wish to share their lives with.
