Music Producer Nao'ymt Leads Special DTM Class in Sendai
On January 15, 2026, a special classroom event was held at the new building of Digital Arts Sendai, where renowned music producer and songwriter Nao'ymt (Nɑo’ymt) conducted a DTM (Desktop Music) class. This event was a part of the announcement ceremony for the anticipated collaboration between Sugawara Gakuen and Vantan, set to launch a specialized course in April 2027.
Vantan, known for its mission to create the "most social school in the world," is partnering with Sugawara Gakuen to develop a program that aims to cultivate creators who can thrive in the industry right out of the Sendai and Tohoku regions. The upcoming course will offer majors in six specialized fields, including track making and production, performance, video creation, VTubing, esports, and voice acting.
During the special class led by Nao'ymt, 14 students from Sugawara Gakuen were present to learn from someone who has worked extensively in music production. Nao'ymt shared personal stories from his childhood that sparked his passion for music, emphasizing his belief that "impulses create music." In the first half of the lesson, he reflected on his experiences in numerous production settings and how his early desires shaped his musical journey.
The latter part of the class transitioned into a hands-on demonstration where Nao'ymt showcased the process of music production using DTM tools. He explained how generative AI can be utilized to ease the psychological barriers beginners face when venturing into music creation. Students observed as Nao'ymt crafted a track using chord progressions generated by AI, layering the elements of beat, bass, chords, and riffs. He illustrated how each sound contributes to the overall feel and groove of the music, allowing the students to witness the transformations firsthand.
Nao'ymt, hailing from Chiyoda, Tokyo, is not only a prolific music producer but also a talented lyricist, composer, and singer. He has collaborated with artists such as Daichi Miura, Namie Amuro, AI, and Tomohisa Yamashita, providing them with numerous tracks. Recently, he has shifted some of his focus toward music education, engaging in lectures and writing to help nurture the next generation of musicians. Notably, he played a crucial role in creating the music for the spectacular show "One World, One Planet." during the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, serving as a music director for the closing ceremony.
The event proved to be an eye-opener for many of the students. One shared, "Seeing music being created from scratch for the first time gave me goosebumps as it neared completion." Another added, "I have always been interested in music, but with no accessible learning environment until now, it's great to have such an opportunity nearby." A student aspiring to be a game developer commented, "I learned about the depths of music. I want to be able to create music myself too."
This special class not only highlighted the talents of Nao'ymt but also underscored the importance of creating educational avenues where aspiring creators can explore their passions and develop their skills with the guidance of industry professionals. With the collaboration between Sugawara Gakuen and Vantan on the horizon, the future looks bright for music and digital arts education in Sendai and the Tohoku area.
