Samsung Biologics Achieves Unprecedented 'Negligible Risk' in ESG Ratings Evaluation

Samsung Biologics Receives Top ESG Rating

In a significant milestone for corporate sustainability, Samsung Biologics has achieved a 'Negligible Risk' rating according to the latest assessment from Morningstar Sustainalytics. This accomplishment marks a pivotal advancement from its prior 'Low Risk' designation, positioning the company within the top 0.5% in the pharmaceuticals sector based on its ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) performance.

The recent evaluation awarded Samsung Biologics an impressive ESG Risk Rating score of 9.0. Morningstar Sustainalytics employs a rigorous methodology to evaluate around 16,000 global companies, focusing on their exposure to material ESG risks and their effectiveness in mitigating those risks. Scores below 10 denote negligible levels of unmanaged ESG risk, meaning lower scores are synonymous with overall lower risk.

The improvement in Samsung Biologics’ rating is a testament to its ongoing efforts in reinforcing its ESG management practices. Over the years, the company has introduced several initiatives designed to enhance various facets of its operations including environmental auditing, workplace health and safety, and adherence to quality management protocols and ethical business practices.

John Rim, the President and CEO of Samsung Biologics, commented on this achievement, stating, "Effective risk management is fundamental to how we operate as a global CDMO. This recognition demonstrates the progress we have made in embedding responsible practices across our business. As we expand our global operations, we will continue to take a disciplined approach to managing risks and maintaining the trust of our clients and stakeholders."

The remarkable achievement follows other accolades this year, including an 'A' rating in the 2026 MSCI ESG Ratings and a Platinum Sustainability Rating from EcoVadis, placing Samsung Biologics among the top 1% of companies assessed worldwide. This pattern highlights the firm’s ongoing dedication to not just meet but exceed sustainability standards.
