Pollo Campero to Host a National Fundraising Day for Earthquake Relief
On
August 25, Pollo Campero, a fast-casual restaurant originating from Guatemala, is urging communities throughout the United States to participate in a national fundraiser aimed at supporting earthquake relief efforts in
Venezuela and
Colombia. This initiative follows the devastating earthquakes that struck these regions, leading to significant consequences for the health and wellbeing of their populations.
The restaurant chain will contribute
25% of sales from patrons who mention the fundraiser at the register to
Direct Relief, a humanitarian medical organization actively involved in the ongoing response and recovery missions. The need for support is urgent; healthcare providers in Venezuela are grappling with the aftermath of earthquakes that occurred on
June 24, which severely impacted hospitals and disrupted medical services. To compound this crisis, another earthquake hit Colombia on
August 10, creating additional challenges that require immediate and sustained support.
Karla Patino, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Pollo Campero, expressed the significance of the initiative: _“The victims of back-to-back earthquakes in Venezuela and Colombia will require substantial support for many months to come, and we intend to help meet those long-term needs.”_ She emphasized the intention of the fundraiser to empower communities in the U.S. to transform an everyday meal into impactful assistance for families and communities facing recovery challenges.
Pollo Campero has a deep connection with the Hispanic community in the U.S., and its leaders hope this initiative encourages other brands and organizations to join in the efforts. Luis Javier Rodas, Managing Director and COO of the restaurant chain, stated, _“Lasting recovery will require the sustained support of many.”_
Since early June, Direct Relief has mobilized over
11 tons of medical supplies and provided
$400,000 in emergency grants to aid healthcare providers in Venezuela. However, the situation remains dire, with ongoing needs for hospitals and communities still in the recovery process. As part of its expanding efforts, the organization is also mobilizing resources to assist in Colombia.
Jennifer Lotito, Chief External Affairs Officer of Direct Relief, highlighted the power of partnerships to maximize the effectiveness of humanitarian efforts. _“Partnerships have the power to extend the reach and impact of humanitarian response in ways no organization can achieve alone,”_ she said. Lotito expressed gratitude towards Pollo Campero for showcasing the importance of collaboration among businesses, communities, and humanitarian organizations to ensure families receive necessary support and healthcare throughout recovery.
To participate in the fundraiser, customers can visit any participating Pollo Campero location across the U.S. on
August 25 and mention the fundraiser during checkout. This simple act can contribute significantly to the relief efforts.
