Enhancing Patient Experiences with Art in Healthcare
In a groundbreaking move, GENOVA, a health tech company headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, has launched an innovative interactive monitor artwork titled "Kobito ga Sumau Canvas" in collaboration with the renowned digital art collective, teamLab. This unique artwork is specifically designed for installation in hospitals, clinics, and care facilities, aiming to transform the waiting experience for patients and visitors.
The Vision Behind the Art
GENOVA's mission is to connect people with healthcare to create a healthier society. One significant challenge facing modern healthcare facilities in Japan is the lengthy waiting times which can significantly affect patient satisfaction. By introducing interactive art installations like "Kobito ga Sumau Canvas," GENOVA seeks to address these issues and enhance the overall experience of patients in medical environments.
The installation creates an engaging space within waiting areas by simply setting up a touch panel on the walls, enabling visitors to enjoy a creative play environment and shortening their perception of waiting time. This innovative approach has already seen success with previous installations, including "Kobito ga Sumau Kokuban" and "Sketch Piston – playing music," which have been adopted by over 300 medical institutions across the country since their launch in September 2022.
In feedback collected from participating medical institutions, a remarkable 96% of respondents expressed high satisfaction with these installations. Many have reported positive impacts, such as children expressing enthusiasm for visiting the dentist, as well as favorable reactions from families with children.
The Interactive Concept of "Kobito ga Sumau Canvas"
The "Kobito ga Sumau Canvas" artwork features a vibrant digital canvas inhabited by tiny creatures known as "Kobito." Visitors can draw lines on the canvas with their fingers, which alters the colors and changes the world of the Kobito. Engaging with the art involves popping soap bubbles filled with paint; this action splashes across the canvas, transforming its colors and allowing users to enhance their creative expression.
Participants can collaborate with others while drawing, prompting the Kobito to come alive and engage with users in imaginative play. The installation does not impose specific goals or challenges; instead, it promotes a sense of free creativity where visitors can create their own pathways and interactions within the artwork, fostering a collaborative environment.
A Commitment to Medical Experience Enhancement
With the rollout of "Kobito ga Sumau Canvas," GENOVA aims to expand the positive impact of interactive art installations in healthcare settings. By fostering an engaging atmosphere for patients and their families, the company contributes to making their waiting experiences more meaningful and enjoyable.
As the demand for creative and interactive solutions in healthcare continues to grow, GENOVA's partnership with teamLab illustrates a valuable intersection of art and medicine, paving the way for future innovations that enrich patient experiences in healthcare facilities.
