Shaanxi Cultural Events Ignite Cultural Exchange in Paris

On May 29, Paris became the vibrant stage for two significant cultural events celebrating Shaanxi, enhancing the ongoing cultural exchange between China and France. Supported by the Information Office of the People's Government of Shaanxi Province and hosted by the Municipal Government of Xi'an, these events aimed to showcase the rich heritage and arts of Shaanxi.

The morning event was hosted at the UNESCO Headquarters and titled "Silk Road Civilization Tang Poetry Culture and Shaanxi Intangible Cultural Heritage Day." Prominent guests, including Mehrdad Shabahang, the head of UNESCO's Silk Roads Programme, and Marie-Pierre Boucher Hollier, a special advisor to the UN World Tourism Organization, were present.

During this event, attendees experienced the craftsmanship of Shaanxi's intangible cultural heritage through a gallery of representative works. Art forms such as dough figures, tie-dyeing, paper-cutting, and Yaozhou porcelain were displayed, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the rich craftsmanship and rich traditions that Shaanxi offers.

Discussions also flourished regarding the contemporary relevance of Tang poetry and the mutual appreciation between Chinese and French literary cultures. Participants exchanged thoughts on the nature imagery and cultural essence reflected in Tang poetry, comparing it to French artistic expression related to humanity and the environment. Recitations of famous Tang poems in both Chinese and French brought an enchanting atmosphere that transcended linguistic boundaries.

In the afternoon, the events transitioned into the "Shaanxi Culture Day" and the "Eternal Dialogue Cultural Heritage Protection and Urban Renewal" Exhibition. This exhibition was meticulously divided into three sections: "Deep Roots of Civilization," "Safeguarding Cultural Heritage," and "Renewal and Rebirth." With highlighted projects like the restoration of the Xi'an City Wall, Yaozhou Kiln, and sites significant to the Yan'an revolutionary history, the exhibition showcased how cultural heritage can be preserved in tandem with urban development. The innovative folk art showcased included Huxian County peasant paintings and Fengxiang clay sculptures, illustrating the dynamic nature of Shaanxi's contemporary art scene.

Additionally, outside the venue, vivid artworks from Huxian County attracted Paris citizens and visitors alike, who enthusiastically participated in enriching these pieces with their own artistic touch. This activity resulted in a collective creation termed the "China-France edition," which symbolizes the fusion of artistic traditions between the two regions. A local Parisian remarked, "The colors are captivating. Here in Paris, I've become part of an artwork from Xi'an," encapsulating the essence of cultural exchange through shared art.
