Kootenay Silver to Showcase Columba Silver Project at the 2026 PDAC Core Shack
Kootenay Silver Inc. (TSXV: KTN, OTCQX: KOOYF) has announced its attendance at the 2026 Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) convention. This significant industry event will take place in Toronto, and Kootenay will highlight its Columba High Grade Silver Project located in the Chihuahua region of Mexico. Attendees can visit Kootenay's booth (#3100B) during Session B, which runs from March 3, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and March 4, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The Columba Project
The Columba project showcases a classic example of an epithermal vein system found within a volcanic caldera. A unique feature of this site is the preservation from erosion, allowing for clear observation of the zonation characteristic of the epithermal veins. The Columba vein offers significant depth ranges, revealing both high-grade silver and different mineralization patterns.
Recent drill results illustrate this varying grade landscape: surface hand samples have returned assays of 1 gram per tonne (gpt) silver, while deeper drilling has yielded impressive results, including an intercept of 28.63 meters at 175 gpt Ag and 9 meters at 302 gpt Ag. For instance, CDH 24-166 reported this significant vertical depth variation, with additional drilling finding 29.9 meters at 453 gpt Ag in hole CDH 21-110.
Currently, an extensive drilling program comprising 50,000 meters is underway at Columba, aimed at expanding known resource bodies, which remain open in all directions. According to recent estimations, the current Mineral Resource Estimate holds a staggering 54.1 million ounces of silver across 5.92 million tonnes, indicating a robust trend towards further discoveries in this valuable mineral zone.
Unique Geological Insights
Geologically, Columba is characterized as an intermediate sulfidation vein system, typical of large vein districts that have historically produced significant resources. The veins measure approximately 4 kilometers by 3 kilometers, extending vertically over 350 meters, with the potential to reach depths exceeding 700 meters yet to be extensively tested.
Interestingly, as one climbs in elevation within the caldera, vein density diminishes, ultimately giving way to breccias in the upper regions; however, silver grades tend to improve as one delves deeper. This trend illustrates the remarkable preservation of the vein system and reflects the high potential for additional resource discovery.
Kootenay's exploration at Columba marks a significant return, as almost 40 years of prior exploration yielded little in the way of comprehensive data. Historically, the F Vein was exploited during two main mining periods, once in the early 1900s and again in the late 1950s, losing momentum due to regional conflicts. Today, under Kootenay’s stewardship, the project is equipped with a robust surface access agreement, ensuring exploration continuity and future economic viability.
Ensuring Quality and Accuracy
Kootenay Silver adheres to stringent quality assurance and quality control protocols for all technical information pertaining to Columba. Samples are processed in accordance with established methods, ensuring accurate testing and reporting. ALS Minerals in Chihuahua handles the analytical processes, employing systematic assaying for precision, including blanks and standards to ensure consistency across results.
With a clear commitment to advancing its mineral projects in the Sierra Madre Region of Mexico, Kootenay Silver continues to support its shareholders while looking forward to future developments at the Columba site. As the 2026 PDAC draws near, anticipation builds to see how the showcasing of this project will further instigate discussions around silver market trends and exploration dynamics within the mining community.
