Valvoline Announces $1M Initiative to Train Future Automotive Mechanics

Driving Opportunity for Aspiring Mechanics

Valvoline™ Global Operations, recognized as a leader in automotive and industrial solutions, has taken a significant step towards shaping the future of automotive mechanics. On October 16, 2025, the company announced a groundbreaking initiative: a commitment of $1 million USD aimed at alleviating the global shortage of skilled mechanics. This new program, known as the Aspiring Mechanics Program, is designed to impact the lives of approximately 10,000 aspiring mechanical professionals around the world through training and scholarships.

A Critical Industry Challenge

The global automotive landscape is facing an alarming projection of a shortage of 4.3 million skilled workers by 2030. This shortage poses a serious threat to the industry’s growth and sustainability. Recognizing this issue, Valvoline’s initiative comes at a pivotal moment, aiming to create pathways for new entrants into the field. “From the early innovators behind the steam engines to the advanced technicians today, Valvoline has always championed the professionals driving this industry forward,” explains Jamal Muashsher, President and CEO of Valvoline Global Operations.

Program Features and Impact

The Aspiring Mechanics Program endeavors to remove entry barriers for aspiring technicians. Over the next five years, the initiative plans to distribute funding that will directly support training programs, scholarships, and community-engagement activities. This investment isn’t just about financial support; it signifies Valvoline's commitment to fostering a workforce that possesses the necessary skills and motivation to thrive.

Valvoline's long-standing tradition of supporting mechanics is evident in its 'Mechanics Month' initiative, which has seen global participation in over 60 countries since its inception in 2020. The new Aspiring Mechanics Program extends this support even further, ensuring that emerging professionals have access to scholarships, apprenticeships, toolbox donations, and mentorship opportunities across various regions.

The partnership between Valvoline and the Hub for Innovative Learning and Leadership (HILL) in Lexington, Kentucky, is a standout feature of this initiative. HILL Principal Michelle Wilson highlights the importance of such collaborations: “This partnership provides our students legitimate pathways into high-demand careers, where their skills will make a significant difference.” This approach not only prepares students academically but also connects them with genuine opportunities in the automotive sector.

An Exciting Showcase at the F1 Mexico Grand Prix

Valvoline's commitment to aspiring mechanics will be prominently featured at the upcoming Formula 1® Mexico City Grand Prix. Students from La Escuela Mexicana de Electricidad (EME), who have benefited from the Aspiring Mechanics scholarships, will gain exclusive access to experience the F1 paddock. “This is an unprecedented opportunity for students to engage with professional mechanics and see firsthand the importance of skill and precision in this field,” says Muashsher.

For students like Julio Del Moral, a passionate recipient from EME, this support is transformative. “I am incredibly grateful for the scholarship,” says Del Moral. “It motivates us to learn and grow, and I hope it benefits many others.” His sentiments encapsulate the essence of Valvoline's mission—empowering individuals through training and opportunity.
