The beloved board game 'Catan' is stepping into new territory with the inaugural Catan Student Tournament set to take place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center, Taitō Hall. Targeting young players aged 12 to 22, this official tournament is tailored specifically for students, making it a one-of-a-kind event in the Catan community.

Event Details

• - Date: April 26, 2026
• - Time: 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM
• - Location: Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center, Taitō Hall
• - Capacity: Approximately 100 participants (First-come, first-served basis)
• - Application Start Date: December 6 at 12:00 PM through Board Game Bear

This tournament is a perfect opportunity for young enthusiasts to dive into the strategic realm of Catan, as interest in board games continues to grow among school-age children. More and more high schools and colleges are establishing board game clubs, and the prevalence of board game cafes has fueled this increasing engagement.

Because of the growing number of student participants in the Catan Japan Championship, the organizers decided it was high time to host a student-exclusive tournament. In the 2025 Catan Japan Championship, approximately 36% of participants were in their teens and twenties, a significant rise from 30% in 2024, confirming that young players want to be part of this competitive scene.

Participation Requirements

• - Must be able to play standard Catan rules
• - Must be between 12 to 22 years old on the day of the event
• - Must be a registered student at a middle school, high school, college, or vocational school (Elementary students are not eligible)
• - Student ID will be required for verification on the event day

Prizes and Recognition

The top three players of the tournament will receive prizes. The overall winner will be crowned the Student Catan King and will gain the opportunity to advance to the finals of the following year's Catan Japan Championship, alongside exciting awards.

Media and Filming

The event may see media coverage, including interviews and in-game photography. Participants should be aware that their faces may be captured during the event unless they opt-out, in which case identifiable markings will be provided to avoid inclusion in photos. Please note that winners' names and images (nicknames allowed) will be publicly announced regardless of preferences regarding photography.
