On September 2, 2026, a new chapter for Gundam enthusiasts will begin with the grand opening of
The GUNDAM BASE ANNEX inside the
BHCPDII MUSEUM in Shizuoka City, Japan. This event is in celebration of the first anniversary of the BHCPDII Museum, a space dedicated to the art of model-making and the legacy of Gundam model kits, popularly known as Gunpla. To make the experience even sweeter for families, the museum will run a special campaign allowing free entry for children under the age of 12, beginning on the same day.
The
BHCPDII MUSEUM spans approximately 1,500 square meters and occupies the second and third floors of the newly constructed Bandai Hobby Center. It serves as a 'communication base for the charm of manufacturing,' offering factory tours and hands-on experiences related to model kit design and production. Visitors can engage with various stages of creation, including planning, design, molding, and packaging. One of the highlights is the full-size Gunpla monument, alongside a display of over 4,300 model kits. Live plastic molding demonstrations further enrich the experience, making the museum a paradise for both amateur and experienced modelers.
The recent addition of
The GUNDAM BASE ANNEX marks an important milestone, as it aims to provide fans with a comprehensive retail experience filled with Gundam-themed merchandise. Here, guests will find a wide array of products including model kits, apparel, accessories, and snacks, showcasing the vast universe of Gundam. For the first time, limited-edition Gundam model kits that were previously available only online will now be stocked in-store. Additionally, the newly established
BHCPDII MUSEUM SHOP will offer exclusive items featuring the museum's logo, providing fans with unique memorabilia they can't find anywhere else.
For the special grand opening, the store will debut two limited-run products: the
MG 1/100 Shibuya Gundam in
BHCPDII color, priced at 5,800 yen (including tax), and the
Haro Basic Green in a special
BHCPDII packaging, priced at 550 yen. Both will be available from September 2, 2026. These special models retain their dynamic features and imposing designs, with some elements enhanced for a premium look.
As the GUNDAM BASE continues to expand its footprint globally, the ANNEX signifies an opportunity for local enthusiasts and international visitors alike to connect with the Gundam legacy in a new and exciting way. The facility follows previous successful openings across major cities, including Tokyo and other countries, and aims to become a central hub for fans from around the world.
