Hurom Achieves Patent Infringement Ruling Against NUC (Kuvings) on Amazon in the U.S.
Hurom's Victory in Patent Infringement Against NUC (Kuvings) on Amazon
In a significant legal victory for Hurom, the global leader in juicing technology, the company has successfully enforced its patent rights against NUC (Kuvings), a competitor in the juicing market. This ruling, effective as of July 11, 2024, has led to a sales ban on several of Kuvings' juicers on the Amazon platform in the United States. This news reinforces Hurom’s commitment to protecting its innovative technology in a competitive market.
Since its inception in 1974, Hurom has dedicated over five decades to developing cutting-edge juicing technologies. The company pioneered the world’s first vertical auger juicer in 2005, setting the standard within the industry for vertical juicers. Hurom continues to emphasize health and wellness by introducing new technologies that contribute to the growing wellness culture.
The recent ruling is part of Hurom's broader strategy to protect its patented technologies against unauthorized use. Over the past few years, the company has faced increasing instances of patent infringement in global markets, including China, the United States, and Europe. To counter this trend, Hurom has embarked on a comprehensive global patent enforcement strategy aimed at safeguarding its core technologies.
The recent legal decision came as a result of the Amazon Patent Evaluation Express (APEX) procedure, which allows rights holders to swiftly resolve patent infringement issues on the platform. Under this procedure, after Hurom notified Amazon of the potential infringement, a neutral third-party evaluator reviewed the claims. The evaluation concluded with the determination that NUC's products did indeed infringe on Hurom's patents, leading to their removal from Amazon listings.
Consequently, Amazon has banned the sale of five notable NUC (Kuvings) models, including the REVO830W, EVO820GM, C7000S, C7000W, and C7000P, which were distributed by various sellers, such as Kuvings USA and GlobalEcom.
Moreover, Hurom's intellectual property team has initiated further legal action in front of the European Patent Court against manufacturers and distributors that violate its patents. In addition, the Korea Trade Commission (KTC) has opened an investigation into NUC (Kuvings) for alleged unfair business practices related to patent infringement.
Jaewon Kim, the CEO of Hurom, expressed the company’s strong stance on safeguarding its intellectual property: “We can no longer ignore the unauthorized use of Hurom's patented technology. Through decisive action, we will protect the healthy and fair ecosystem that Hurom and our customers are committed to. However, in line with Hurom's patent licensing policy, we are willing to allow authentic users to access our patented technology to maintain a shared commitment to wellness.”
In summary, Hurom's recent patent infringement victory signals its commitment to maintain a competitive edge in the juicing technology market and its determination to uphold its innovative contributions to consumer health. As the company continues to navigate the challenges of patent enforcement globally, it remains focused on promoting a healthier, more equitable industry through vigilant protection of its intellectual property.
