Highlights of the Exhibition

1. Grand Installation by the Headmaster
This year, a large installation will be created by the headmaster at the entrance of the Sogetsu Headquarters. Last year, the installation featured orange bamboo that moved softly, as if alive. For this exhibition, entitled 'Flower Minuet', the piece aims to create an ethereal landscape that seems to float gracefully within the urban setting. This installation promises to connect city life with nature and the people within it.

2. Competitive Floral Art by Sogetsu Masters
The Sogetsu masters will showcase their artistic interpretations of the 'Minuet' theme, reflecting their unique insights and techniques developed through daily practice. In homage to the words of the first headmaster, Seiko Teshigawara, 'Water is an essential element in Sogetsu Ikebana', several arrangements will center around the theme of water, resulting in a refreshing display that embodies the spirit of early summer.

Message from Headmaster Akane Teshigawara

With the light and water of early summer, this year’s exhibition is designed to utilize the beautiful space within the Sogetsu Headquarters. The natural light, shifting shadows, and reflections on the walls and ceilings create an enticing yet challenging environment for the displayed artworks. Each piece, born from this space, will embody a vibrant freshness that is representative of Sogetsu’s philosophy. The theme of 'water' will feature prominently, enhancing the overall atmosphere of the exhibition. I hope that visitors will feel our joyful approach as we move towards the milestone of our 100th anniversary.
