Frisco Mother Alleges Daycare's Negligence Revealed by Surveillance Footage
In a disturbing case that has caught the attention of parents and child safety advocates alike, a mother from Frisco, Texas, is taking legal action against Kids 'R' Kids of Lawler Farm, asserting that the daycare repeatedly placed her three-year-old son's well-being at risk. The allegations stem from several distressing incidents that were captured on the center's surveillance cameras, revealing a pattern of inappropriate physical treatment by caregivers.
Kylee Weiland, the mother in question, became aware of these troubling behaviors through her own observations and subsequent revelations from an investigation conducted by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). What began as an inquiry into a separate incident at the daycare involving other children led to the uncovering of several alarming behaviors directed toward her son, including being forcefully shoved, pulled by one arm, and struck by the daycare staff.
The recorded footage highlighted incidents on two separate days where two different caregivers were seen employing excessive force and mishandling toddlers in ways that are not only alarming but violate standard childcare practices. Among the notable moments were clips showing one caregiver abruptly yanking Kylee's son by his arm and unceremoniously pushing him into a chair, actions that raised immediate concerns about the daycare's commitment to ensuring the safety and emotional well-being of the children in their care.
Kylee noticed unsightly marks on her son’s body, including a concerning dark spot under his eye. When she sought clarity from the daycare, the responses were far from satisfactory, prompting her to dig deeper into the situation. According to her son, the staff member's actions were not just rough but also frightening for the children, contributing to an atmosphere of fear rather than safety.
The DFPS investigation findings were equally troubling, revealing that management at Kids 'R' Kids of Lawler Farm had been fully aware of the misconduct occurring at the facility. Despite having received multiple warnings and being presented with the alarming surveillance evidence, the daycare management failed to act appropriately. Instead of upholding mandatory reporting requirements—which included notifying both parents and the state regarding these incidents—they actively discouraged employees from reporting such misconduct, thereby perpetuating a cycle of negligence regarding child safety.
Russell Button, the attorney representing Kylee, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that the daycare center knowingly violated Texas childcare laws while neglecting basic child safety standards. The legal team has highlighted that the center was cited for six violations following the DFPS investigation, which prompted the implementation of a safety plan. This plan aimed to ensure more stringent supervision by qualified staff, notably placing restrictions on certain caregivers to prevent them from supervising children alone.
Unfortunately, Kids 'R' Kids chose to not adhere to this safety plan, continuing their previous behavior without regard for the established laws meant to protect children. Subsequent inspections revealed eight more safety violations between July 2024 and May 2025, reinforcing concerns about the daycare's operational integrity and the likelihood of similar incidents occurring in the future.
This ongoing legal battle serves as a reminder of the critical need for vigilance in childcare settings and the importance of holding daycare centers accountable for their practices. The case, officially titled 'Kylee Wieland v. Vrise, Inc. (d/b/a Kids R Kids of Lawler Farm)', will be tried in Collin County and stands as a stark warning to all childcare institutions regarding the magnitude of their responsibilities to the children in their care.
As the lawsuit unfolds, many in the community remain on edge, awaiting further developments in the case while reflecting on their own experiences and the safety of their children in daycare environments.
