America250 Revives ‘America’s Startup’ National Competition
America250, the nonpartisan organization tasked by Congress with leading the national celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, has announced the return of “America’s Startup.” This national collegiate competition aims to support and honor promising undergraduate entrepreneurs and innovators.
Overview of the Competition
After a successful pilot earlier this year, the exciting fall program will open applications from August 17 to October 8, 2026. This invites students enrolled in accredited U.S. colleges, universities, and trade schools to compete for a portion of a
$1 million prize pool, which includes non-dilutive funding of up to
$50,000 per team, national mentorship opportunities, and a live finale event in Washington, D.C.
Historically, American college campuses have been the breeding ground for groundbreaking companies and transformative technologies. “America’s Startup” aims to elevate that legacy, presenting an unprecedented platform for student entrepreneurs to showcase their innovations on a national scale. One of the standout aspects of the competition is the immersive
Pitch Weekend happening in mid-December. This unique opportunity allows student founders to pitch their business ideas live before a panel of renowned business leaders, venture capitalists, and industry icons.
Rosie Rios, Chair of America250, expressed excitement about the program’s expansion. “The incredible momentum we saw in our inaugural program is inspiring. Students nationwide exemplified the entrepreneurial spirit of America. As we celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary, we're thrilled to empower young innovators to turn their imaginative ideas into empowering businesses.”
Competition Structure
The competition welcomes early-stage student founders with business ideas across all industries. Applicants can compete individually or in teams of up to five members by submitting a written proposal along with a brief pitch video. This inclusive format encourages undergraduates at the idea or early execution stages to refine their business concepts while connecting with seasoned entrepreneurs.
Enhancements Following the Spring Pilot
The Fall 2026 cycle builds on the momentum from the highly successful Spring program, which gathered applications from nearly
200 colleges and universities in 42 states. The initial winners represented various industries, including AI, healthcare, biotechnology, semiconductors, sustainability, and consumer technology. Adhira Tippur, Co-Founder of Kairos Health and one of the Spring winners, stated, “The U.S. offers unique opportunities for innovation. Programs like ‘America’s Startup’ play an essential role in providing resources, exposure, and support to young founders.”

The competition promises enticing awards to the participants:
- - Top 100 Entries will be shared with the Investors Council, offering potential equity investment opportunities and invitations to apply for the NVIDIA Inception program.
- - 30 Semi-finalist Teams will be invited to Washington, D.C., for live pitching, along with networking and mentorship.

The initiative’s Investors Council features notable figures from the entrepreneurial landscape, such as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and venture capitalist Tim Draper.
