Zoomlion's Mining Machinery Business Expansion Fuels International Growth Strategy

Zoomlion Expands Mining Machinery Business

Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology Co., Ltd., commonly known as Zoomlion, is taking significant strides in the expansion of its mining machinery sector, which has seen astounding growth recently. As of October 2026, the company reported a staggering 57.20% year-over-year growth in its mining machinery business. This growth is accompanied by a notable increase in total international revenue, which rose by 12.45% to reach RMB 15.535 billion, amounting to 57.25% of the company's total revenue. This expansion marks a strategic effort to solidify their global presence in the mining sector, focusing not only on machinery sales but also on the development of localized manufacturing and service capabilities across several countries.

Diverse Mining Portfolio

Zoomlion's mining machinery portfolio encompasses a wide array of equipment designed for excavation, loading, haulage, crushing, and screening. Among their flagship models are the ZE4000G, a powerful 400-tonne mining excavator, and the ZTE520 hybrid electric-drive mining truck, capable of carrying up to 300 tonnes. These products underscore Zoomlion’s commitment to developing advanced and efficient machinery tailored for the needs of modern mining operations.

Strong Historical Roots

The company’s deep-seated connection to mining engineering dates back to 1987 when its predecessor, the Changsha Construction Machinery Research Institute, was recognized for creating a comprehensive open-pit mining system capable of handling 10 million tonnes annually. This historical emphasis has laid a solid foundation for current innovations and growth.

Focus on Efficiency and Cost Reduction

Zoomlion attributes its recent success largely to a focus on reducing operating costs for clients. This has been achieved through ongoing product innovations, rigorous real-world testing, and embrace of new technologies. The company's strategies involve close interaction with mining conditions worldwide; in a recent operational period, research teams visited approximately 150 global mining sites, addressing over 50 critical technical challenges during the product development process. According to Wu Yuanfeng, deputy general manager of Zoomlion Mining Machinery, they also calculate lifecycle operating costs, providing clients with a clear overview of potential economic benefits. Notably, Zoomlion's pure-electric equipment can decrease operating costs by over 50%, while hybrid models can enhance profitability by at least 15%.

Electrification and Automation

As electrification gains traction in the mining industry, Zoomlion has developed hybrid mining trucks that slash fuel consumption by as much as 40%. Their 100-tonne-class battery-electric mining trucks have demonstrated operational stability with over 8,000 hours logged in the field. The ZT160HEV hybrid model notably supports up to 18 hours of continuous autonomous operation, highlighting the company's forward-thinking approach to modern mining challenges.

To augment productivity, Zoomlion has begun deploying automation and digital technologies. They have introduced autonomous trucks, remotely operated excavators, and coordinated mining fleet management systems. In one large open-pit metal mine in northern China, this technology alone increased daily trips per truck by over 10%.

International Expansion

The growth of Zoomlion's international business has been remarkable, with electrified equipment delivered to coal mining operations in Indonesia, open-pit mines in Argentina, and various projects in Ecuador and several African nations. The international revenue of RMB 15.535 billion, reflecting a 1.67 percentage point increase in the contribution of international business to total revenue from a year prior, illustrates the success of these expansion strategies.

To back its growing international business, Zoomlion is enhancing localized manufacturing, sales, and service capabilities. As of June 30, 2026, the company operates over 30 primary business hubs globally, more than 530 secondary and tertiary outlets, and over 300 spare parts warehouses. The company's factories in Hungary and Germany are expanding operations, showcasing the commitment to support global client needs.

Future Perspectives

As stated by Liu Jianqiang, Zoomlion's marketing director and deputy general manager of its overseas business, the digital integration of both front-line operations and back-office teams enables effective real-time collaboration, which is crucial for sustaining growth in the competitive mining machinery market. The ongoing expansion of Zoomlion’s mining machinery business, coupled with increasing international operations, continues to diversify their revenue streams effectively.

As the company looks to the future, its combination of advanced mining technologies, a robust international strategy, and commitment to client-focused innovation positions it strongly within the global market. Zoomlion is undoubtedly making a significant impact on the mining sector, ensuring they are at the forefront of technological advancement and operational efficiency.
