Transforming Career Guidance with Engaging Games
In Japan, the usage rate of university career centers remains surprisingly low, at approximately 44%. Many students view these centers as places to visit
just before job offers, leading to a lack of early engagement. In response to this issue, DYM Corporation is pioneering a novel approach by collaborating with universities nationwide to introduce a
career simulation game, aiming to create a more comfortable and engaging environment for students navigating their job search.
Understanding the Current Scenario
As the job search landscape becomes increasingly complex and dynamic, the significance of career centers within universities has soared. However, a survey conducted by DYM in April 2026 revealed that out of 656 job-seeking students who participated in consultations, only 290 had previously used their career center, while 366 had not. This paints a concerning picture: about
56% of students never visit their career centers.
Many students often perceive career centers as intimidating, thinking they are only necessary when offers are on the line or when they have a specific career path in mind. This mindset leads to a missed opportunity, particularly in the initial stages of job hunting when students require the most guidance and support. To address this gap, DYM has launched a program designed to facilitate interactions between lower-year students and their universities, effectively lowering the barriers to accessing career support.
Introducing the Job Hunting Simulation Game
DYM's innovative
job hunting simulation game allows students to experience an integral part of the job search process in a fun and interactive manner. Unlike traditional lectures or guidance sessions, this workshop-style program focuses on self-analysis and helps students gain a comprehensive view of the job hunting process through engaging gameplay. Here are some key features of the program:
- - Understanding Job Hunting Flow: The game systematically outlines the job search flow and the necessary preparations, offering a way to learn while having fun.
- - Creating Connections with Career Centers: By facilitating dialogue between students and career center staff during the event, students are encouraged to take the first step to consult with their centers and seek advice.
- - Fostering Career Awareness from Early Years: The program is designed for participation from first and second-year university students, providing opportunities for them to start thinking about their future careers much earlier.
As this initiative rolls out across
public and private universities nationwide, feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Surveys conducted post-event have revealed that students feel their previously vague anxieties about job hunting have been alleviated, with many expressing intentions to visit their career centers promptly.
