Introduction
Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store, based in Koto, Tokyo, has embarked on an exciting project in collaboration with horror creative company Yami Co. and Japan XR Center. This partnership aims to bring a unique and terrifying immersive experience to life through an original XR horror attraction titled "迷界デパート" (Mikai Depart). Set to debut on July 16, 2026, at the Daimaru Tokyo Store, this attraction promises an unforgettable adventure into a world of horror and suspense.
What is '迷界デパート'?
The original content "迷界デパート: Endless Memories Haunting an Infinite Department Store Labyrinth" will use XR technology, allowing players to engage in a free-roaming style gameplay experience while wearing head-mounted displays. Players will take on the role of a rookie night security guard tasked with investigating unsettling anomalies within the store, who inadvertently finds themselves trapped in a disturbing realm where our darkest memories run wild.
In this chilling setup, participants will ride a staff-only elevator during the late hours, only to encounter a twisted version of the store, where reality and nightmares blur. The atmosphere is filled with eerie nostalgia that enhances the terror as mannequins emerge from the darkness, creating palpable tension. Armed only with a flashlight, the goal is to escape this maze of horror, facing thrilling challenges along the way.
