U.S. Army Selects Quantum-Systems' Vector AI for Enhanced Reconnaissance Operations

In a significant move to enhance its aerial reconnaissance capabilities, the U.S. Army has selected Quantum-Systems Inc.'s Vector AI small uncrewed aircraft system (sUAS) for the Company-Level sUAS Directed Requirement (DR) 2 initiative. This initiative, backed by a contract worth $15.3 million, aims to accelerate the delivery of advanced aerial intelligence tools to its Brigade Combat Teams.

Quantum-Systems, recognized as a leader in unmanned intelligence and targeting solutions, has developed the Vector AI, which has been designed to provide real-time intelligence for maneuver forces operating in complex and dynamic environments. The platform has been operationally proven, logging more than 20,000 flight hours in Ukraine during 2025, which has significantly contributed to refining its autonomous capabilities and adaptability in contested scenarios.

The Vector AI boasts an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) design that allows for rapid deployment by a single operator within five minutes, making it not only efficient but also capable of supporting various functions such as reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition through AI-enabled mission planning and advanced electro-optical sensing.

As part of the Army's modernization strategy, this selection is crucial to ensuring that Soldiers have access to commercially available unmanned systems that can evolve alongside future operational requirements. The Vector AI is set to complement the Army’s existing Company-Level UAS platforms and will play a vital role in shaping the capabilities of the future Medium Range Reconnaissance (MRR) program.

The selection process for Vector AI involved a comprehensive evaluation that examined various factors such as its performance, payload integration, and compatibility with emerging Army software architectures. This program reflects the Army's intention to rapidly operationalize proven commercial systems to enhance the capabilities of forces at the tactical front. According to Dave Sharpin, CEO of Quantum-Systems Inc., “Today's battlefield demands unmanned systems that are adaptable, resilient, and proven in real-world operations.”

The Vector platform integrates modular architecture which allows for swift integration of new payloads and ensures interoperability with current battlefield management systems like TAK and Lattice. This feature enables combat units to effectively detect and track targets while maintaining an awareness of the operational environment.

Additionally, the Vector AI is designed to operate in GPS-denied environments, incorporating advanced anti-jamming capabilities and a multi-layered navigation stack for visual navigation and precision targeting functions independent of GPS. With this technology, military units can support their operations more decisively and effectively against contemporary threats.
