The Role of Huawei’s TECH4ALL Initiative



Supported by Huawei's TECH4ALL global initiative focused on digital inclusion, the project aims to create dedicated teacher education centers in the northern and northeastern regions of Brazil. The completion of these centers under the direction of the LabCrie Creativity and Innovation Laboratory for Basic Education is anticipated by the end of 2025. According to Iuri Rubim, the director of the Anísio Teixeira Institute under the Ministry of Education for Bahia, this partnership not only introduces technology but emphasizes the critical, creative, and sustainable integration of such tools in educational contexts.

Supporting Sustainable Development Goals



Aligned with the United Nations' fourth Sustainable Development Goal, this open school project is geared towards enhancing resilient educational systems that reinforce national education policies. It endeavors to digitally transform the educational sector while democratizing access to quality education. Rafael Herdy, technology coordinator at the Pará Ministry of Education, expressed optimism that initiatives like this will catalyze Brazil's progress towards digitalizing education, ensuring that future generations are equipped with innovative and equitable learning opportunities.

Focus on Educator Development and Artificial Intelligence



The teacher training will particularly target high school instructors, focusing on green digital education and artificial intelligence. Utilizing the state education ministry’s AVAMEC virtual educational platform, the project intends to benefit around 1,000 teachers and students from public schools in Jequié and Breves, enhancing their understanding of modern educational paradigms.

UNESCO's Maria Rehder emphasized the importance of teachers in the educational process, noting, "No screen can replace a teacher. However, technology's enormous potential in education can help us build a more inclusive and sustainable future." On this note, the initiative represents a significant step toward integrating technology and education within a dialogue framework involving educators themselves.

Strengthening National Digital Education Policies



Furthermore, the project aims to bolster Brazil's public policies concerning digital education by developing a national guide on green digital education. This includes upgrading internal platforms, enhancing school connectivity, building sustainable technology infrastructure, and providing AI training for teachers.

Global Aspirations and Future Prospects



In addition to Brazil, the second phase of the open schools initiative is underway in Egypt and Thailand, following the success of Phase I in Egypt, Ethiopia, and Ghana, which ran from 2020 to 2024. This ambitious undertaking has supported nearly a million educators from early childhood through high school in Egypt, while also enhancing educational access in Ethiopia and Ghana.
