Taiko Launches Innovative DAO with Aragon for Complete Decentralization
Taiko's Innovative DAO Launch
In a groundbreaking move towards full decentralization, Taiko—the first Ethereum-based rollup network—has officially deployed its Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) on the Helka testnet. This initiative, completed in partnership with Aragon, marks a significant advancement in Taiko's evolution into a fully decentralized extension of Ethereum.
Purpose and Structure of the DAO
The newly designed DAO framework emphasizes a multi-threshold multi-signature (multi-sig) system that caters to both regular and emergency circumstances. At the heart of the DAO will be a Security Council responsible for crafting and approving various proposals. Notably, any individual can assume the role of a delegate by amassing stakes from token holders, fostering community engagement directly within governance processes.
According to Daniel Wang, co-founder of Taiko Labs, 'Our vision is to create a rollup as a public utility, ensuring that Taiko Layer 2 is free from ownership or control by any singular entity. Achieving genuine permissionlessness and decentralization is critical to fulfilling our shared vision, and we are dedicated to actualizing this goal.'
Governance Model
Taiko's governance model illustrates an optimistic approach. Proposals produced by the Security Council members are subject to a 7-day veto period, enabling token holders and delegates to review and potentially contest these proposals through on-chain votes. If a proposal fails to meet the veto threshold within this period, it proceeds with a mandatory execution delay of 7 days. This framework introduces a novel level of community ownership, transitioning from simple signaling votes to more robust participation in essential decision-making processes.
Daniel elaborated, 'We aimed for an equilibrium between efficiency and safety. While securing a DAO is crucial, it should not interfere with the participation of our community or the decentralization doctrine. We recognize that DAO engagement fluctuates, which prompted us to adopt an approach that empowers our community to voice worrisome proposals instead of merely ticking a box of support every time.'
Emphasis on Security
In regard to security, Taiko’s DAO design incorporates extensive mechanisms surrounding proposals. For instance, emergency proposals will only be entertained when immediate action is paramount. Any member of the council has the power to submit such proposals; however, approval requires a super-majority consensus from the council members. Furthermore, the specifics of proposals remain encrypted until implementation, mitigating the risks of exploiting any vulnerabilities.
Future Steps
The selection process for the Security Council members is currently in progress and is expected to be disclosed shortly, leading up to the DAO's anticipated mainnet launch. The unveiling of Taiko's DAO on Helka signifies a monumental step towards a truly decentralized ecosystem, ensuring that all voices in the community can be heard and respected.
To keep up with Taiko's advancements, follow their updates on the Helka testnet. Through its commitment to decentralization, Taiko is not just refining its architecture but is also paving the way for the future of Ethereum-based rollup solutions.
