Tamiya Home's Commitment to a Greener Future
In a bold move towards environmental sustainability, Tamiya Home, a leading real estate and renovation company in Japan, is expanding its forest preservation project known as "Tamiya Forest Symphony." As of late 2025, the total area of owned forest is projected to surpass 30 hectares (300,000 square meters), underpinning the company’s dedication to combating climate change and promoting a circular economy.
Background of the Project
Pressing Need for Action
Earth's climate crisis is escalating at an unprecedented pace. The Japanese Ministry of the Environment highlights this urgency through its “Decarbonization Portal” and other initiatives, emphasizing the ongoing increase in global temperatures driven by greenhouse gas emissions, which are severely impacting both our lifestyle and ecosystems. Advocating for carbon neutrality and offsetting actions has never been more crucial.
Tamiya Home's Perspective
Initiated as part of Tamiya Home’s CSR activities, "Tamiya Forest Symphony" serves as a carbon offset project aimed at preserving and nurturing the environment. By owning over 30 hectares of forest, the company aims to absorb substantial amounts of carbon dioxide (CO₂) effectively, aligning its operational goals with sustainability. According to data from Japan’s forests, each hectare absorbs about 10 tons of CO₂ annually, contributing significantly to Tamiya Home’s carbon offset targets. The company’s vision is to achieve a “carbon negative” status, where absorption exceeds emissions. This cycle encapsulates the essence of their project: engaging in the upstream process of nurturing forests while responsibly managing resources.
A Growing Network of Forests
Since the beginning of forest ownership in 2024, Tamiya Home's initiative has rapidly expanded. By 2025, new partnerships have emerged with forests across Hiroshima, Shiga, Chiba, Tochigi, Wakayama, Mie, Miyagi, and beyond, adding over 18.5 hectares to their stewardship. This broadening of scope from a localized real estate firm to a nationwide leader in conservation stands testament to Tamiya Home’s commitment.
The Three Circles of Tamiya Forest Symphony
Tamiya Forest Symphony's philosophy revolves around three major cycles:
1.
Material Circle: The project explores the possibility of utilizing forest compost and materials, integrating a system that returns resources back to the forest.
2.
Safety Circle: Enhancing the forest's ability to retain water serves as a “natural dam,” mitigating downstream flood risks, aligning with Tamiya Home’s disaster prevention initiatives.
3.
Emotional Circle: By preserving these “living assets,” Tamiya Home fosters shared values among its employees, ensuring a rich environment for future generations.
