Drew Maloney Appointed to Lead Edison Electric Institute
In a significant leadership move, the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) has appointed Drew Maloney as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2025. The announcement marks a substantial shift within the organization, as Maloney steps into the role previously held by interim President and CEO Pat Vincent-Collawn.
Following years of experience in the energy sector and public policy, Maloney is anticipated to bring a robust perspective to EEI, which represents a wide array of investor-owned electric companies across the United States. His appointment is welcomed by the EEI Board Chair, Maria Pope, who highlighted Maloney's extensive expertise in navigating complex policy environments through effective coalition-building. This experience will be critical as the electric power industry navigates increasing demand while maintaining affordable customer rates amid the evolving landscape of energy supply and consumption.
Maloney expressed his enthusiasm for the role, emphasizing the paramount importance of a resilient energy grid in an era where advancements in artificial intelligence and the return of manufacturing to the U.S. intertwine with everyday life becoming increasingly electrified. He noted, "The strength and resilience of America's energy grid is more critical than ever. EEI's member companies play a vital role in this dynamic industry, and I am eager to collaborate with them to create and implement policies that will bolster critical infrastructure investment, enhance the deployment of domestic energy resources, and ensure energy remains both affordable and reliable for consumers."
Before joining EEI, Drew Maloney served as President and CEO of the American Investment Council (AIC) starting in 2018. His leadership there established him as an effective advocate for the energy sector, focusing on mobilizing investment in American energy and critical infrastructure. Prior to his tenure at AIC, he was confirmed by the Senate as the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Legislative Affairs, where he managed issues regarding tax policy and energy infrastructure.
Maloney's career trajectory includes significant roles within the Hess Corporation, where as Vice President of Government and External Affairs, he directed various government relations initiatives and sustainability projects while championing bipartisan energy legislation. His foundation in advocacy was further solidified at Ogilvy Government Relations as CEO, advocating for policies that enhanced grid reliability. He has also served on Capitol Hill, gaining invaluable experience in energy policy as Legislative Director and Chief of Staff.
A graduate of Randolph-Macon College and holder of a law degree from the Catholic University of America, Maloney’s educational background complements his rich career. His understanding of the intricate dynamics of energy policy and lobby efforts places him at the forefront of the challenges facing the electric power sector today.
EEI represents nearly 250 million Americans by advocating for policies to enhance energy delivery. The organization is pivotal in addressing the needs and interests of its members, which collectively support over seven million jobs nationwide. Moreover, EEI operates alongside more than 70 international electric companies, ensuring a global perspective in matters concerning energy production and distribution.
As the energy landscape continues to evolve with technological innovations and an increasing focus on sustainability, Maloney’s leadership is positioned to guide EEI through these transformative times, aiming for American energy independence and enhanced national security. Stakeholders and customers alike will be observing closely as he steers the institute towards addressing future energy demands and infrastructural investment challenges.
