Exciting Return of the Barbecue Showdown
The United Way of Stephens County is excited to announce the return of the 8th Annual Barbecue Showdown, set for September 12 and 13 at Fuqua Park in Duncan, Oklahoma. This event is more than just a competition; it’s a two-day celebration of food, family, and the sense of community.
The kickoff to this much-anticipated event is scheduled for Friday, September 12. The festivities will start at 6:00 PM with free admission, where visitors can enjoy the sounds of live music by Biskitheadz from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. In addition to the music, a variety of food trucks will be open for those who wish to indulge in tasty treats throughout the evening.
On Saturday, September 13, excitement continues with the Barbecue Competition. Kicking off at 10:00 AM, barbecue judging will take place to evaluate some of the best barbecue dishes in the area. From smoked brisket to grilled ribs, participants will showcase their culinary talents in hopes of winning big prizes. Barbecue sales will be available from noon to 2:00 PM, allowing attendees to taste the delicious entries. For families attending the event, a dedicated KiddieLand will feature activities to keep the little ones entertained.
The Stephens County Museum will also be open for visitors, and tickets for the day are available for just $10 at Fuqua Park. The competition will see grill teams battle it out in various categories including Brisket, Ribs, Chicken, Pork, Sides, and Desserts. A grand prize of $250 will be awarded to the winners in the four featured meat categories, while medals will be up for grabs in all six categories. Additionally, People's Choice winners will receive traveling trophies, adding a competitive edge to the event.
Logan Lassley, the Executive Director of United Way of Stephens County, emphasizes the significance of this gathering, stating, "This event isn't just about great barbecue—it's about coming together as a community to make a difference. Every ticket and every bite helps support all 14 of our partner agencies, providing vital programs in health, education, and financial stability across Stephens County."
