David Frank Takes the Helm of ALF
The American Liver Foundation (ALF) has recently welcomed David Frank as its new chairman of the board, following the tenure of Emmanuel Thomas, MD, PhD, FAASLD. David has previously served as Vice Chair and has deep ties to the organization personally and professionally. With a background in finance as Senior Product Manager for Equities Cash Derivatives at Wells Fargo Securities in New York City, he is poised to guide ALF through future challenges and initiatives.
Dr. Thomas was instrumental in steering the organization for three years, during which he facilitated unprecedented growth. Under his leadership, ALF supported groundbreaking research and developed a unique partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs aimed at increasing public awareness of liver health. He has worked tirelessly, contributing a decade of service to the ALF Board of Directors.
"I'm proud to have led ALF through a transformative phase, funding research to the tune of $1.1 million and establishing crucial frameworks like the Living Donor Network," Dr. Thomas stated. He has brought together key leaders in the liver community, recruiting individuals dedicated to the vision of the ALF. As he hands over the reins to David, he expressed gratitude for the direction and vision that David brings.
David’s connection to liver diseases is deeply personal. He became involved with ALF in 2014 after losing his mother, Geraldine, who succumbed to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) at just 62 years old. The experience ignited his passion for raising awareness of liver disease. In 2017, he galvanized young professionals by launching the Greater New York Associate Board and later established NASH AWARE, a global platform for educating the public about non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
Every month, his blog reaches a diverse audience across the globe, emphasizing his commitment to spreading knowledge of liver health. Additionally, he’s a frequent speaker at NASH conferences, positioning himself as a dedicated advocate in the field of liver health.
Upon his recent election, David shared profound sentiments: “I am deeply honored to be elected as board chair for an organization that leads the fight against liver disease. ALF has made significant strides over the last 50 years, but with over 100 million Americans affected, we must amplify our efforts and broaden our reach.” He is especially motivated to expand the organization’s impact in addressing what he deems an urgent public health crisis.
The leadership transition also includes the election of other foundation officers, with Connie Deneweth, CPA, serving as treasurer and Anne Doyen, Esq., assuming the role of secretary. ALF has continued to thrive under the stewardship of Lorraine Stiehl, the Chief Executive Officer, who has been pivotal in guiding the organization towards its mission of aiding those affected by liver diseases.

In conclusion, the election of David Frank marks a new chapter for the American Liver Foundation, one that aims to enhance awareness, provide education, and advocate for those battling liver diseases. With his leadership, ALF is set to enter a new era of impactful initiatives and community outreach.
