NOK Continues Support for Family-Friendly Backcountry Skiing Event in 2026
NOK Corporation, based in Minato-ku, Tokyo, is thrilled to announce its ongoing sponsorship of the "NOK Kids Backcountry Tour 2026." Organized by the Nagai Corporation from Minami-Uonuma, Niigata, this program offers families the chance to enjoy backcountry skiing and snowboarding together, while deepening their understanding of environmental issues and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
This year marks the fourth consecutive year of NOK’s sponsorship, a commitment that started in 2023. The initiative focuses on providing children with direct interaction with nature, which is crucial for their physical and mental development. In recognition of the growing interest in competitive skiing, this season introduces the "Freeride Academy," aimed at junior athletes aspiring to hone their skills for international competitions. Under the guidance of Antti Autti, the 2005 Halfpipe World Champion, participants will learn essential techniques and mindset necessary for excelling on the global stage.
Program Highlights
The Tour prioritizes safety through the employment of experienced mountain guides who lead participants in exploring the breathtaking natural landscapes while skiing down the slopes. Children and their parents together share the exhilarating experience of gliding through untouched snow. But it’s not just about skiing; guides also provide valuable insights into snow ecology, ice formations, and the environmental dynamics of snowy mountains, creating teachable moments amidst the fun.
During the offseason, a series of environmental education workshops will be held in urban areas, focusing on issues related to snow and ice. These sessions, including workshops that repurpose scrap wood from snowboard construction, aim to enhance children’s awareness of environmental issues while incorporating enjoyable learning experiences.

What is Backcountry Skiing and Snowboarding?
Backcountry skiing and snowboarding refer to the thrilling experience of navigating natural snow-covered mountains, away from artificial slopes. Participants are accompanied by specialized mountain guides prioritizing safety while also fostering a deeper understanding of nature. The rising popularity of these activities is closely associated with the freeride approach, allowing enthusiasts to use the mountain terrain creatively.
In previous editions, participants engaged in skiing through powder snow while learning about the water cycle and vegetation in forested areas and capturing memorable moments climbing snowy peaks with knowledgeable guides.
