Mount Dora Arts Festival: A Celebration of Art and Community
The charming town of Mount Dora, Florida, is gearing up for a spectacular weekend as it hosts the 50th annual Mount Dora Arts Festival on February 1 and 2, 2024. For half a century, this enchanting event has transformed the downtown streets into a vibrant hub for art lovers and creators alike. Each year, fine artists from across the nation gather to showcase their original works under white tents, bringing a unique flair to this beloved community.
This milestone festival will feature
300 talented artists competing for a total of
$20,000 in cash prizes across various categories, including 2D, 3D, and the coveted Best in Show. The festival is divided into two key areas: the
Juried Fine Arts section, where artworks are assessed for awards, and the
Emerging Artist/Craft Artisan zone, which celebrates up-and-coming creators and operates near the lively food court. Janet Gamache, the Executive Director of the Mount Dora Center for the Arts (MDCA) and coordinator of the festival, expresses her excitement, stating, "I am so excited to see what the artists will bring every year. The jury process is tough, and it's very competitive to be selected. This is the best of the best."
Visitors can anticipate a diverse collection of artwork at the festival. From
painting and
photography to
clay and
glass art, the range of artistic styles and mediums is both eclectic and inspiring. Gamache highlights the opportunity for attendees to engage directly with the artists, sharing insights about their inspirations and processes. "It's an amazing experience to go home with an original work of art," she adds.
In addition to art, the festival will offer a variety of food options, including beer, wine, and cocktails at kiosks throughout the venue. Local restaurants will also open their doors, welcoming guests for a delightful sit-down dining experience. As part of this vibrant celebration, the
Central Florida Dance Festival will present a unique array of performances at Donnelly Park, set to take place on April 12, 2025, sponsored by the MDCA at the Mount Dora Music Hall.
Attendees planning to purchase artwork are advised to bring cash, as
WiFi connectivity can be unreliable, making card payments challenging. However, there will be ATM machines available on-site to assist with transactions.
To ease the traffic burden during the festival, a
free round-trip shuttle service will operate from 900 Lincoln Ave, helping visitors avoid the hassle of parking. While pets are allowed, Gamache recommends leaving them at home to ensure a comfortable experience for everyone.
The
Mount Dora Arts Festival is proudly presented by G3 Development in collaboration with the MDCA, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts. Proceeds from this festive occasion play a vital role in supporting the MDCA's annual art programming.
