LG Electronics Begins Construction on a New Manufacturing Plant in India to Expand Production Capacity

LG Electronics India Ltd. (LGEIL) has officially announced the start of construction on its third manufacturing plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, a significant step toward enhancing its operational capacity in the region. This new facility, strategically positioned in Sri City’s industrial area, is anticipated to commence operations by the end of 2026. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Shri Nara Lokesh, the Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, who highlighted the importance of this investment for local employment and economic growth.

The new plant is set to cover 247 acres and is projected to create approximately 1,495 direct jobs, contributing to the state's industrial development. Over the next four years, LG will invest around USD 600 million (approximately INR 5,001 crores) in this endeavor. This substantial investment is expected to not only bolster LG's manufacturing capabilities but also attract supporting businesses to the region, thereby establishing a vibrant ecosystem for white goods production in Andhra Pradesh.

This new facility will enhance LG Electronics' ability to meet the rising demand for its products across India, including but not limited to air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and AC compressors. By centralizing production in South India, the plant will strengthen the supply chain and improve access to LG products for consumers in the area.

During the ceremony, Lyu Jae-cheol, President of the LG Home Appliance Solution Company, expressed confidence that this new plant would play a crucial role in LG's ongoing partnership with India and its commitment to economic growth in the country. He remarked, "This construction marks a new milestone in our journey in India and enhances our ability to respond to local market needs."

In addition to LG's executives, such as James Lee, President of the LG Eco Solution Company, representatives from the Andhra Pradesh government were also in attendance, underscoring the collaborative effort between the corporation and state authorities to create a conducive business environment. The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri N Chandrababu Naidu, conveyed his support for LG’s decision to establish its manufacturing facility in Sri City, emphasizing the favorable policies and infrastructure in place to support such investments.

As LG Electronics continues to expand its footprint in India, the establishment of this new manufacturing plant illustrates the company’s ambition to not only enhance its operational capabilities but also to play a pivotal role in fostering economic development within the local community. The move aligns with the global trend of companies recognizing India’s potential as a vital hub in their supply chains and manufacturing networks.

With the increasing popularity of smart home appliances, LG's commitment to innovation and local production is well-timed to tap into the dynamic growth opportunities in the Indian consumer electronics market. By fortifying its manufacturing base, LG Electronics aims to ensure that it remains at the forefront of the competition in the rapidly evolving landscape of home appliances, all the while providing valuable employment opportunities and contributing positively to the economic landscape of Andhra Pradesh. The investments and operations at the new plant are expected to begin driving results by 2026, marking an exciting development for both LG Electronics and the region’s industrial sector.
