Le Mars, Iowa, Celebrates Expansion of Transload Center to Boost Economic Growth

Le Mars, Iowa: A Hub for Economic Development

Le Mars, Iowa, is set to enhance its economic landscape with a significant expansion of the Le Mars Transload Center (LMTC). This event, scheduled for October 29th at 10:00 AM, will feature local dignitaries and transportation officials who will celebrate the milestone at the city's industrial park. The LMTC, owned and operated by Burlington Junction Railway (BJRY), plays a pivotal role in providing essential rail services to industries, contributing to job growth and increased tax revenue for the community.

Located strategically near the Canadian National Railway and U.S. Highway 75, the expanded facility affords local businesses better access to rail services, significantly benefiting both established and new industries. This expansion is particularly important as it highlights the growing demand for efficient rail-to-truck transloading and third-party logistics solutions in the region.

A Collaborative Effort

The expansion initiative was partly funded by a 0% interest loan from the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Railroad Revolving Loan and Grant Program. This financial backing underscores the collaborative efforts between various stakeholders, including the city of Le Mars, BJRY, and the Canadian National Railway, which initially launched the transload facility in 2015.

Local representatives, including Mayor Rob Bixenman, have expressed enthusiasm about the project, emphasizing its role in reinforcing the city’s commitment to fostering economic growth and connectivity. Mayor Bixenman remarked, "Today's expansion of the Le Mars Transload Center is a testament to our city's commitment to economic growth and regional connectivity. We are proud to be a hub where industries of all sizes can thrive."

Strengthening Supply Chains

Iowa Department of Transportation Director Scott Marler echoed these sentiments, stating that investing in infrastructure opens up new horizons for local businesses and enhances global supply chains. He went on to affirm that the project is a step towards improving transportation efficiency across Iowa.

The strong alliance between the Burlington Junction Railway and the Canadian National Railway ensures that local businesses will be well-connected to North America's expansive rail network. Sandra Ellis, Vice-President of Bulk Business Development at CN, noted, "By connecting local businesses to CN's extensive North American rail network, this expansion will strengthen supply chains and facilitate access to new markets."

Looking Ahead

The growth of Le Mars as a critical logistics hub does not just stop with the transload center. BJRY President and CEO Peter Hoth expressed optimism about the potential for future growth, stating, "We continue to foresee exciting growth in Le Mars, and we are committed to providing opportunities for the community and its companies. Our customers and Class I railroad partners are vital to that progress."

Moreover, the City of Le Mars is often recognized as "The Ice Cream Capital of the World," home to Wells Enterprises, which produces more ice cream than any other city. This economic backdrop further highlights the area's industrious spirit and potential for growth.

In summary, the expansion of the Le Mars Transload Center represents not only an investment in infrastructure but also a commitment to empowering local economy and fostering relationships that can lead to further developments in Le Mars and beyond.
