Transforming Change: Bid Farewell to Leftover Foreign Coins
As summer holidays fade, many of us find ourselves with leftover foreign coins and currency hidden away. Instead of letting them gather dust, why not turn them into a source of health support for children in need?
From August 18 to August 31, 2025, the NGO Share will host a campaign inviting donations of foreign coins and bills, aiming to collect 100,000 yen (approximately 50 kg of coins). All international currencies from summer trips, regardless of their origin, are welcome. The collected funds will be converted by a currency exchange service and used to support health initiatives affecting children in Cambodia, Timor-Leste, and foreign mothers and children living in Japan.
One Coin, One Life: Making A Difference
Nourishing the Future in Cambodia
One single foreign coin, weighing just 1.5 kg, has the potential to fund a baby food class that educates parents on the importance of nutrition. In certain regions of Cambodia, around 26% of children suffer from chronic malnutrition. By partnering with local authorities, Share conducts outreach programs to improve access to healthcare, providing vital guidance on nutrition for mothers raising infants. Each donation helps combat these alarming statistics and ensures that the tiniest members of the community receive proper nourishment.
Vaccinations that Save Lives in Timor-Leste
For foreign bills worth 5,000 yen, we can enhance healthcare services in remote areas of Timor-Leste. While there are healthcare professionals available, many lack the necessary skills to provide essential health services. This financial contribution can train one additional healthcare worker, ensuring that more children receive vaccinations that guard against infectious diseases. Each note you donate has the power to lower the barriers to healthcare access and promote child safety in these underserved regions.
Bridging Gaps in Japan
In Japan, many foreign mothers struggle to receive adequate maternal health services due to language barriers. A donation of 5 kg of foreign coins can facilitate sending trained medical interpreters to help these women navigate healthcare systems. This initiative ensures that they can communicate about their and their children's health concerns in their native language, alleviating fears and ensuring they receive the care they deserve.
