Global Leaders Unite for the Human Capability Initiative 2025
On April 13, 2025, over 300 leaders, policymakers, and global experts from 120 different countries came together in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to kick off the second edition of the Human Capability Initiative (HCI 2025). Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the conference aims to explore and tackle significant gaps in skills and knowledge that are prevalent across the globe today.
The event, held at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center, serves as an essential platform for various stakeholders including academia, industry, and non-profit organizations committed to creating a resilient, future-ready workforce. This year's edition underscores the Kingdom's pivotal role in fostering international dialogue surrounding the future of human capability development.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Yousef Al-Benyan, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Human Capability Development Program (HCDP), highlighted that this gathering reflects the Kingdom's enduring commitment to shaping a dialogue on global workforce readiness driven by pressing challenges such as technological disruption, demographic changes, and sustainability concerns.
The conference spans two days and features over 100 panels organized across four main stages. Participants will engage in discussions about future trends and innovative approaches to empower individuals and communities. Key topics include enhancing collaboration between the public and private sectors and devising sustainable solutions tailored for the fast-approaching future.
In addition to the panels, the conference will host a ministerial roundtable featuring 20 international ministers and a meeting of UNESCO's Board of Directors. These high-profile proceedings emphasize the importance of global collaboration in skill development. Furthermore, several strategic initiatives related to human capability improvement will be launched at both local and international levels.
The Human Capability Development Program (HCDP) organizes this event in alignment with the Saudi Vision 2030 realization programs, highlighting the country's dedication to elevating educational standards and workforce strategies. The Ministry of Education will also coordinate the Education Global Exhibition (EDGEx) that runs concurrently from April 13-16 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, reinforcing the broader objectives of Human Capability Learning Week. This week is positioned as a vital opportunity to unlock the full potential of human capability through various educational and economic initiatives.
The overall agenda indicates a robust commitment to addressing the critical gaps in skills required in an increasingly complex global landscape. As education is redefined and workplace needs evolve, the discussions at HCI 2025 will play an instrumental role in shaping future policies aimed at equipping individuals with versatile skills that cater to new demands created by ongoing changes in technology and job market dynamics.
