NEDHSA and Louisiana Delta College Collaborate for Women’s Workforce Development
NEDHSA and Louisiana Delta Community College Join Forces
In a significant move to strengthen educational pathways and workforce development, the Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA) has partnered with Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC). This collaboration is specifically aimed at empowering women residing at the R.I.S.E. Treatment Center, a facility designed for pregnant women and mothers grappling with substance use disorders. The ultimate goal is to pave the way for long-term stability and success through educational and career opportunities.
The partnership will establish a comprehensive support system focusing on academic and vocational avenues that contribute to the recovery process. Participants in the R.I.S.E. program will benefit from adult education, workforce certifications, vocational training, and academic advising. Additionally, they will receive assistance in navigating enrollment processes, accessing financial aid, and leveraging remote learning options to enhance their educational experience.
As part of this initiative, LDCC will provide a dedicated Success Navigator. This professional will play a crucial role in guiding residents through the complexities of academic planning and enrollment, ensuring that they receive the necessary educational support to thrive. On the other hand, NEDHSA will facilitate participant readiness, access to technology, and will also provide physical spaces for on-site learning and training opportunities.
Dr. Monteic A. Sizer, the Executive Director of NEDHSA, highlighted the transformative nature of this partnership. He stated, "Through our RISE workforce development partnership, we are equipping mothers in recovery with the skills and confidence needed to achieve self-sufficiency and reclaim their futures. This initiative is about converting recovery experiences into genuine opportunities for a better life, ultimately enhancing the community's fabric."
In agreement with Dr. Sizer, Dr. Justin Hoggard, Chancellor of LDCC, echoed the commitment to accessibility in workforce development. He remarked, "This partnership creates genuine opportunities for women in the R.I.S.E. program, allowing them to acquire essential job skills and confidence that can lead to lasting independence. Strengthening individuals equates to strengthening the entire region." Their insights emphasize the importance of providing support to those facing significant challenges in their lives.
The collaboration is not just about education or job placement; it’s a holistic approach that aligns with NEDHSA’s integrated care model at the R.I.S.E. Treatment Center. This model supports pregnant women and mothers with behavioral health needs through comprehensive treatment, recovery support services, and a focus on family-centered care.
Both NEDHSA and LDCC are committed to boosting educational achievements, workforce readiness, and long-term economic mobility for the participants. They recognize the unique barriers faced by those in recovery and aim to address these through tailored services that emphasize restoration and empowerment.
Dr. Sizer further elaborated on the initiative's broader social implications, stating, "Our commitment transcends traditional service provision; it focuses on human restoration. The R.I.S.E program symbolizes a commitment to guiding mothers in recovery toward reclaiming their dignity and rebuilding their families. Investing in these women strengthens not just their lives but the entire state, including the Louisiana Delta. This partnership exemplifies that with the right support, everyone can rise."
