Embracing AI in the Heartland: The Gen Z Perspective



As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to transform the landscape of work and education, a recent comprehensive study by Heartland Forward, Gallup, and the Walton Family Foundation has shed light on the experiences of Generation Z in America’s Heartland. This study reveals a striking contrast between the rapid adoption of AI technologies by young people and the apparent lag in educational systems and workplace policies designed to support this shift.

The Enthusiasm for AI


A survey conducted among nearly 1,500 individuals aged 13 to 28 from 20 states in the Heartland revealed that a staggering 77% of respondents are already utilizing generative AI tools, including popular platforms such as ChatGPT. Furthermore, 43% of the surveyed young people reported that they engage with these tools on a weekly basis. This trend indicates a significant willingness among Gen Z to embrace innovative technologies.
