HUAWEI Mobile Services and the Future of Tourism at MWC 2025
HUAWEI Mobile Services has boldly expressed its intention to transform the future of the tourism sector during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 held in Barcelona. As China continues to serve as a vital outbound tourism market for Spain, adjusting to the evolving preferences of Chinese travelers is crucial for the industry. The company is focused on several emerging trends that are likely to define the landscape of Chinese tourism in 2025.
One significant trend is the
elimination of seasonality in travel, where travel hotspots will aim to draw visitors beyond peak times. Additionally, there is a push for
decentralization, encouraging tourists to explore destinations outside the main cities. This move is complemented by an increasing demand for longer stays, enabling tourists to immerse themselves in cultural and luxurious experiences.
HUAWEI Mobile Services is harnessing its platform, Petal Ads, to deliver valuable data insights to businesses looking to engage with Chinese tourists effectively. This approach centers on real-time analysis of traveler behavior and preferences, allowing the tourism sector to adapt strategies accordingly.
During the event, HUAWEI signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with the government of Andalusia and the Madrid City Council, reinforcing its commitment to the tourism market in Spain. These collaborations are aimed at fostering innovations and enhancing the economic impact of tourism in the region.
"We are thrilled to join forces with Turismo Andalucía and the Madrid City Council to elevate the premium travel experience in Spain," stated Shan Xuefeng, Director of Customer Cloud Services at HUAWEI Consumer BG. The company envisions a smarter, more innovative, and sustainable tourism ecosystem that will provide unforgettable experiences for Chinese travelers.
The MoUs represent an ongoing effort to position Andalusia as a leading European destination. They will lay the groundwork for effective joint marketing initiatives and expand partnership efforts throughout 2025 and beyond. Arturo Bernal, the Tourism Minister of Andalusia, mentioned that this collaboration will enhance the region's competitive position in addressing the intricacies of the Chinese market, which is pivotal given its sheer size.
HUAWEI is set to utilize its leading advertising platform, Petal Ads, to amplify the visibility and appeal of Spanish tourism offerings to Chinese tourists. Currently, this segment is rapidly expanding within the Madrid tourism market; data from 2024 shows a remarkable 74.2% increase in Chinese tourists compared to the previous year.
Part of HUAWEI's strategy involves decentralizing tourism, as it encourages visitors to explore beyond conventional hotspots and promotes travel during off-peak times to support sustainability. This operational philosophy aligns with Madrid’s digital transformation strategy and commitment to intelligent and responsible tourism.
As part of these initiatives, Héctor Coronel, Executive Director of Tourism for the Madrid City Council, commented, "Madrid is embracing the future of travel by integrating cutting-edge digital solutions with sustainable tourism practices."
The agreements underscore HUAWEI Mobile Services' determination to assist Spain in adapting to the shifting demands of Chinese travelers while further establishing its status as a premier tourist destination. With a goal to provide a comprehensive mobile experience, HUAWEI Mobile Services encompasses various platforms including AppGallery, Mobile Cloud, Browser, Assistant, and Petal Ads, serving over 730 million users across more than 170 countries.
