Bloomberg Unveils BQuant Assistant to Enhance Financial Data Analysis and Coding Efficiency

Bloomberg Launches BQuant Assistant

Today, Bloomberg introduced the BQuant Assistant, a cutting-edge domain-specific conversational AI coding assistant that is embedded in both BQuant Desktop and BQuant Enterprise. This innovative tool is designed to enhance productivity for finance professionals who utilize the Bloomberg Terminal. With the BQuant Assistant, users can harness the power of natural language prompts to code, create dynamic applications, and enhance their workflow for analyzing financial data.

Seamless Integration with BQuant

BQuant Assistant seamlessly integrates within the BQuant development environment, allowing financial professionals to draft investment strategies, dashboards, and quantitative analyses with ease. The assistant can respond to user inquiries regarding BQuant, generate Python code, and assist users in querying Bloomberg's vast datasets through the Bloomberg Query Language (BQL). Additionally, it provides support for debugging tasks and iterative processes, and can create code for data visualizations.

This powerful assistant also accesses BQuant's help center, utilizing examples from notebooks, relevant libraries, and practical guides to provide answers to inquiries. By incorporating itself into the BQuant setting, the assistant is generated responses that are contextually relevant to ongoing projects, workflows, and existing code, making it significantly more useful than a generic coding assistant.

User Control and Functionality

One of the standout features of BQuant Assistant is its ability to offer code suggestions. After getting user approval, it can instantly insert and execute code within the user's active project in a secure BQuant sandbox environment. This enables users to transition from query to outcome without losing their workflow context. Users maintain full control over these actions, with the assistant specifying the potential action and seeking approval before initiating any reading or writing tasks in a notebook.

As Shawn Edwards, Bloomberg’s Chief Technology Officer, stated, “Finance professionals work with increasingly large and complex datasets, yet transforming an investment idea into reproducible analysis can still be time-consuming and requires specialized programming knowledge.” BQuant Assistant automates this process through AI-driven coding based on Bloomberg's financial data comprehension and workflows, streamlining tasks for every user ranging from portfolio managers sketching their first query to quantitative engineers developing multi-asset signals.

Enhanced Capabilities

BQuant Assistant enables users to:
  • - Generate BQL and PyBQL queries for analyzing Bloomberg financial data covering various asset classes, including stocks, fixed income, currencies, commodities, and derivatives across over 22,000 fields.
  • - Create code for screens and universes relevant to equities, fixed income, currencies, ETFs, and other assets.
  • - Insert, execute, debug, and iterate on PyBQL or Python code in an active notebook upon receiving authorization.
  • - Raise inquiries about Bloomberg libraries, BQuant workflows, and related product documentation.
  • - Discuss financial concepts and generate code for implementing appropriate models or techniques for workflows.
  • - Receive visualization recommendations and generate code using open-source libraries such as Plotly and Jupyter Widgets.
  • - Review existing code, allowing BQuant Assistant to explain the logic behind it, thereby enriching users' Python knowledge while working.

Availability and Further Innovations

BQuant Assistant will be generally available within BQuant Enterprise and in a limited beta version on BQuant Desktop by the end of October 2026. This launch follows recent announcements by Bloomberg regarding other AI-based solutions aimed at helping investors and businesses maximize their use of high-quality financial data. Highlights include ASK-B, the conversational AI interface for the Bloomberg Terminal, and the Enterprise Model Context Protocol (MCP), which acts as an AI access layer for Bloomberg's next-generation Data License Plus (DL+) services.

About BQuant
