The Hakuhodo Foundation is pleased to announce that the application period for the 21st Research Grant on Child Education Practices will begin on July 1, 2025. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of child education practices through funding significant research conducted by universities, research institutions, and stakeholders in education.

Objectives of the Grant


The primary goal of the grant is to foster research that cultivates 'the power of language' and improves the overall quality of child education practices. By supporting outstanding research with fresh perspectives, the foundation expects these findings to be effectively implemented in educational settings, thereby enriching the foundation of child education.

Eligible Research Areas


The grant targets the following research categories:

Research on Cultivating 'the Power of Language'


  • - Studies related to Japanese language and national language education across various fields.
  • - Research concerning language education in diverse learning environments.

Research Aimed at Enhancing the Quality of Child Education Practices


  • - Investigations that improve the quality of educational practices in a range of settings.

The primary focus is on research involving elementary and junior high school students. However, research related to early childhood and high school education may also be considered if it clearly reflects on child education practices.

Eligibility Criteria


Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
  • - Individuals involved in educational practice at Japanese schools or Board of Education (e.g., teachers, guidance counselors, support personnel for special needs education).
  • - Researchers affiliated with Japanese universities or public research institutions (e.g., associate professors, lecturers, assistant professors, doctoral candidates). To support emerging scholars, positions equivalent to professors or senior roles are excluded.

Additional Eligibility Details


  • - Only applicants residing in Japan are eligible, as applications will only be accepted from institutions located within the country.
  • - There are no restrictions based on employment status (full-time, part-time) or age, nationality, or academic degree. However, students must hold a master's degree or higher.
  • - Both individual and group research applications are welcomed, provided all group members meet the application requirements at the time of submission.
  • - A recommendation from an applicant's supervisor or academic advisor is necessary when applying.

Grant Amount


  • - For one-year grants: Up to 2 million yen per project.
  • - For two-year grants: Up to 3 million yen per project.

Application Schedule


  • - Application period: July 1, 2025, to October 27, 2025.
  • - Notification of results: Late February 2026.
  • - Grant period: Starting from April 1, 2026, for one year or two years.
