Transition in Leadership at Louisiana Gateway Port

In a notable shift, the Louisiana Gateway Port, situated in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, has announced the resignation of its Executive Director, Charles D. Tillotson, effective immediately. This decision comes as Tillotson seeks to explore new opportunities after leading the port through a transformative period marked by substantial infrastructure advancements.

During his time at the helm, Tillotson was pivotal in propelling some of the port's most ambitious capital projects. Noteworthy achievements under his leadership include the securing of critical federal funding. This includes a $7.4 million RAISE grant designated for the Peters Road Bridge and Extension, alongside an $8 million federal earmark intended for the Peters Road Rail Bypass. Recently, Tillotson's team also celebrated the successful completion of the Phase I Navy Business Case Analysis. This significant project provides a strategic roadmap aimed at aligning port operations with the national readiness objectives of the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base located in New Orleans.

Moreover, his administration saw the initiation of the 30% design submission to the Surface Transportation Board for the ambitious 11-Mile LGT Mainline Rail Extension project. This initiative included unprecedented community outreach efforts, ensuring that the needs and concerns of the historic Ironton Community were addressed and incorporated.

Lloyd "Ronnie" Newsom, Chairman of the Port Commission, expressed gratitude for Tillotson's unwavering commitment to the Louisiana Gateway Port's objectives, emphasizing the strategic milestones achieved during his two-year tenure. He noted that the groundwork laid under Tillotson's leadership sets a strong foundation for the port's aspirations to become a prominent global intermodal hub. The commission has extended best wishes to Tillotson for his future endeavors.

Looking ahead, the Port Commission plans to meet in the coming weeks to deliberate on the succession process and develop a transition plan to ensure continuity in leadership.

Despite this significant change at the top, operations at the port's facilities, including the Belle Chasse and Pointe-a-la-Hache ferry services, will proceed seamlessly without any disruptions.
